  Abruptly, everyone heard the engine.
“We’re flying, Queenie, we’re flying Parthena!” Arthur exclaimed.
“Meowww…..” Queenie purred.
“Squawk..” Parthena mumbled drowsily. They could feel the gently rumbling of the engine beneath their feet. Each tender wind tickled Arthur’s face like a feather. A fresh aroma of bread filled the ship, wafting up the twins’ nose, reminding them of home.. From below, the abyssal depths of the sea sway one side to another, while the warm breeze flew through Maudie’s hair. Above them, the ragged edges of the clouds were colliding with beams of light, which had tinted them with red and amber.

Unexpectedly, that once beautiful sky turned into a darkened mackerel sky…
“Why is the rain being so relentless?” Harriet thought. Eventually, a deafening silence broke the noise…
“Arthur, what’s happening?” Maudie said with a blink of worry, as she was being dragged inside by an icy iron arm. A light flickered outside. Maudie shuddered as Arty whispered to her assuringly,
“I don’t know, ask Captain Culpepper.”
“Alright. HARRIET! WHAT’S HAPPENING!?” Maudie cried.
“I don’t know, twinnies.. Please can you figure out what’s happening through the windows?” Harriet shouted. Culpepper penetrated for some kind of answer on the dashboard, although there wasn’t anything wrong with the ship-BOOM! A peal of thunder was glimpsed. BANG! A flash of lightning bolted across the gloomy sky. Torrents of rain dropped onto the top of the sky ship, making tapping sounds….. TAP! TAP! TAP! 

“IT’S FELICITY, OUTSIDE!” Arthur and Maudie gulped. The crew ran to the windows to check. And there she was-
“It’s just my flashlight! Now open the door, I’m getting soaked!” Felicity signalled. They bring her inside to warm up, but then, a shooting star danced across the sky as they all gasped silently in awe…….

A drone, scouting for danger. Whizzing through trees as it scrutinizes for misbehavior..

Adam suddenly woke up with a start; but the Lion slept on.

From outside he could hear loud voices, they were all obviously looking for Adam’s Lion! Peering through the windows Adam could just make out a group of guards trying to break into the building that Adam and his Lion were in!

The magnificent Lion with a flowing mane lay quietly in the darkness. Adam stroked the Lion awake. The Lion woke up as she looked straight at Adam in the eye. Just then, Adam signalled the her to be absolutely silent by putting his finger on his lips. Sharp, cold voices let out commands for them to evacuate the building!

At that moment the silence was shattered by a strange echo of footsteps in the hallway. Was an intruder approaching?

The whole room was waiting in baited breath. Adam quickly peered out from behind a rusted old crate. A torch light began to invade, even the darkest corners of the room. Whispers were dancing through the air, as shimmering dust floated through the room. Abruptly, a gust of wind shot over the room, as the door slowly opened… If he just stayed still… if he just stayed quiet…

After what seemed like hours, but was surely only a matter of minutes, Adam dared take a glance from his hiding spot. The coast was clear…for now.

“Lion, we must go to the gateway – they’ll be back any second.” Adam gasped breathlessly. The mythical creature gazed up at him, eyes soaring into his soul. In moments, Adam knew what they had to do… locate the gateway…. He already knew that the gateway would save her life. If he could help her reach it, then she could enter, and return to her own world, to infinity, to… immortality. Anxiously Adam checked her wound… It still bled; she seemed weaker. She was not in a good condition… Getting to the gateway would be a challenge… 

they had no choice.

Moments later, Lion and Adam made their way out of the ‘safe-for-no-longer’ building that had only been a safe haven for short time, and out into the gloomy alleyway ahead. Silent as a ghost, the small boy and his creature hurried down the labyrinth of side streets heading for the Ossulstone. A sliver of moonlight shone down on them. And the sky was scattered of a thousand galaxies. As they journeyed on, they avoided countless checkpoints and slipped away from every guards gaze. It was a hunt… and they were prey. Would they reach safety? Or would this mission be their last?

Outside, a jagged threat of lighting crackled across the sky, as thunder growled overhead. Darkness was now descending…

Inside, Adam was desperately searching for a way out of this dusty, abandoned, ancient old building. At that moment, he realised that he was trapped! Abruptly, he plunged into the darkness, as rusty antiques, from years ago, scattered onto the floor and broke into tiny pieces. Adam was quite cold, probably because of the barricaded windows that let all the rain in. To his dismay, the rain had now soaked his brand new jumper. Adam’s hope faded… 

The discarded metal looked as if it were to fall over, too.

But luckily for Adam it didn’t. A deafening silence flew through the air… Suddenly Adam caught a glimpse of a shadow leaping out of the corner of the room! As he glanced up, two brown – orangey eyes mysteriously emerged out of the darkness… 

The shadow was now more illuminated in the pitch black room.

A flash of yellow – gold fur stepped between Adam, as the mysterious serpent threw back its shaggy head and roared, louder than thunder! All four paws between Adam made his jaw drop in shock when he that the “something” that he realised actually a Lion! Suddenly someone else’s shadow had been illuminated in the darkness as well…. And they were holding a glinting knife in their hand…. Just then, Adam realised that the reason the lion pounced between him was because of the attacker!

THE BROWN CAT

I curl my tail – as I purr gently to get to sleep

I squeeze my eyes shut, as I let out a yawn.

I leap out of my bed to catch a treat,

I’m a Fish – Lover, Treat – Catcher,

I’m a Fur – Cleaner, Night – Stalker,

Claw – Sharpener,  Street – Padder.

I’ll walk elegantly through the moonlight.

And wail at the moon.

My fur, as soft as snow,

My fur is the color of a smooth,chocolate brownie.

I’ll sneak home, sly as a fox.

I’ll slip indoors through my cat flap.

My glistening, leaf green eyes are always alert.

I wait, patiently, for the sun to rise.
