The Week
You are Monday,
the struggle of getting out of bed after the weekend,
like a slow sloth,
you were dreaming of floating on a cloud.
You are Tuesday,
getting in the swing of school,
going home with a pile of home work to do,
tired of the never-ending chat
of what people did on Sunday.
You are Wednesday,
wishing it was the weekend,
getting complicated assignments,
bounding to the car like a squirrel.
You are Thursday,
babbling about what you are going to do on Friday,
given more homework,
you can’t wait for the weekend at home.
You are Friday,
the endless excitement,
of children waiting for,
the weekend to arrive,
running home like Greyhounds.
Hi Alice, thank you for submitting your poem to TeachingLive. We really like how you have taken a theme for your poem and seen the idea right through to the end. Describing Monday feeling like a slow sloth is something we can all relate to! Well done, we’re looking forward to reading your next poem.
I think this is an original and effective theme for your poem Alice, well done! I read it to Prep 5 and they agreed with Wednesday especially!
