The Dragon’s Secret
Here I am, a lonely, proud dragon in a solitary cliff cave.
Upon my mighty cliff I have an exquisite view of the endless, turbulent, ocean waves.
If you dare to approach my treasured cave
I will…
Stare you down with my blood red eyes. Eyes that see into your weak soul.
I will….
Shred your tendons with my teeth as sharp as shards of shattered glass
I will…
Beat you back with the curves of my wings of steel.
I will…
Use my needle-pointed, diamond talons like a battle-hungry warrior’s sword.
If only I could tell you why I fight so intensely.
I fight because my entire future depends on it.
My future depends on my woven nest of precious eggs.
What a fabulous piece of poetry, Thalia! I love the structure you introduced through the repetition of “I will…” The last line where you reveal the dragon’s secret is my favourite.
