Skyship and the Witches- Flying Ahead
Ten minutes later, Ward had revisited the Skyship and fixed the Skyship’s broken engine. The crew members climbed anxiously on to the Skyship and were now drifting in the bitter cold sky through the ebony night with only the Big Dipper to lead them. Ward had found a place in the bottom of the ship for the baby witchlet and it had fed well and was now snoozing gently.
Fitz paced alone on the decking, pondering if he would ever see his bungalow and his family again. The stars cast a golden light through the moist clouds and some glimpses of the moon could be seen. Ward moved near Fitz and thought about how brave friend was. He thought that he would never get bored of the fresh wind in his hair and the fantastic Skyship gliding steadily just underneath the jagged, puffy edges of the clouds.
Just then, they heard something… or somebody. What or who could it be? Ward held his breath wishing it wasn’t the witchlet’s mother and the ten aggressive witches.
Fitz saw that Ward was sweating and breathing rapidly. “It’s just the sail flapping in the breeze, Ward. You’ve had a busy day, now it’s time to rest.”
Within a few minutes, they were both asleep, dreaming of their great adventure behind and their great journeys ahead. The Skyship sailed on without a noise through the glowing night towards a new day.
I love how you describe the sounds to build the suspense!
