Sunset by Maya

You have probably been in an air ship when the bitter and beastly, weather-biting winds are nibbling and tearing at your hair, when the lashing, flashing lightning is bursting up everywhere, causing dramatic disruptions.

But you should also try a trip when the bright rainbows are grinning like a child having their school photo taken and when the twinkling silver stars are glistening in the sunlit moonlight.

Indigo perched on a seat by the long, winding railing and watched (with a pale, colour-drained face) the Sunset – their ship – lurch to one side. The devil-like storm had shoved them off course and by now they they should have been floating over the crumbling cliffs of Cornwall. She turned to see her sister, Skyla, enjoying the journey. Skyla grinned. Indigo thought, ‘is Skyla actually BRAVER then me?’. She put these thoughts aside and focused on the journey ahead.

“Focus you two!” snapped Captain Lark. “We have faced one problem already and if we have another, well… it WILL be our lucky day.” She added the last bit sarcastically and the sisters knew it.

Out of the blue, a breath-taking Fire Dragon appeared in front of them. It reared to a halt and lurched back preparing to strike! This time, they were ready. Captain Lark pulled the Sunset left, then right, then left again. The compass was going crazy like a monster with five eyes! North, East, North, West, East again, now South. The dragon breathed and the fire belched out of its gargantuan mouth, sizzling and tingling the back of the crew’s necks. The sat-nav beeped:‘BEEP BEEP BEEP!’ “You have gone off course, I repeat: gone off course,” it blared.

The ship head-butted into a thick fluffy cloud. “Indi, look through the telescope,” demanded Captain Lark.
“Yes Captain!” she replied willingly, happy to be able to do something.
Peering through it, she was absolutely blinded! The fog was likely to have smothered it. The Sunset dipped and swooped like an elegant swallow. Had they fought the dragons? And were they going to make it back down to Earth…?
