Chapter 3 – Bobby in the New World

Opening his eyes, Bobby was no longer in a tropical paradise. He couldn’t see anything: the room was pitch black. Creatures screeched and flapped above his head as Bobby attempted to protect himself. Where was he? He looked around for any sign of the outside and saw a flicker of light in the distance. Crawling across the gravelly ground, Bobby clambered across the rocks toward it. Luckily, the light was the end of the tunnel and Bobby was able to climb out of darkness into a forest full of sad trees. It looked like a plant graveyard. Everything told him not to take another step but his curiosity got the better of him. He stepped forward. Creeping vines appeared to weave toward him, guiding him through the forest. Eyes peered around the trees and the feeling of being watched took over in his mind so he began to run. Running as fast as he could, it was as if the forest was never ending. A noise stopped him in his tracks. It sounded like a low growling sound, like a hungry hippo. Bobby stumbled after tripping on a root that was raised above the mud. He was expecting to hit the ground with a thud but instead he kept falling. Plummeting towards the ground, Bobby tried to grab the roots extending from the walls of the hole was falling into. Where was he now?

Silence. Looking around Bobby could see ancient cave walls, covered in vines that clung to the  stone. There was no way to climb up again so he would have to will himself forward, deeper into the cave. That’s when he heard it. Sssssssss. Ssssssss. What could it be? He froze and stared towards the noise, hoping to work out where it was coming from. As he looked down at his feet, he could see tracks that looked as though something had been dragged through here.

‘Was there someone here before?’ wondered Bobby as he took another step.

“Hello? Is anyone there?” he whispered apprehensively. A flash of turquoise light flickered across the cave and hid again in the shadows. Red balls of fire seemed to dance in the distance. Ssssssssss.
