the emporium of wonders

She had thrown into her crave that she had always wanted, though it seemed that it wasn’t going to come true.

There were no signs of her long lost parrot. It didn’t feel right, then she heard it. Something upstairs; something moving and it wasn’t exactly using footsteps. It was a strange claws scraping sound accompanied by a large screech. She stared up the stairs, she plucked up enough courage and descended step by step , trying to keep silent. She paused and peered round the door into the kitchen. Nothing moved. A moment later she heard the sound again. Turning around it was then that she saw it: a pitch black shadow waddled towards her; yellow eyes popped out of its tiny black head its sharp claws tared the carpet. There was no hesitation. Molly burst the door open and as fast as she could run,she zoomed back up to the pathway, through the forest and towards were the door had been.

But there was no sign of the door anywhere but just trees. Silhouettes shifted throughout the trees “come back”, hissed a voice.

chapter 3-through the door

it was a creaky old wooden cottage with dead roses in the in the garden and vines growing up against the walls and the roof. The door was open and without really thinking about it she walked in her heart bouncing with curiosity and excitement. The house had everything that you might need; a kitchen with a freshly baked chocolate cake, a living room with reclining chairs, a dining room with a diamond ceiling light glistening with the light.

“Hello” called Molly, wondering if anyone else was there. But she was met by silence. She made her way down the hall. There was no one in either room near the kitchen. For a moment she wondered if she had stepped into an abandoned house…

Chapter4-the return

Trying to dismiss the eerie voice that rang in her ears, molly paused where she was sure that the door must have been roughly standing. There was no door but there was a wishing well, it looked quite old, it had a lot of vines wrapped around the well like a snake strangling its prey. Molly looked down peering over the edge, she saw crystal clear water, she looked a bit further, as she did she could see what looked like a shape of a door, without thinking Molly climbed down the vines. Molly had expected the water to be freezing cold but surprisingly it was quite warm.

Down, down through the clear water towards the of the shape of the door at the very bottom of the well. Her heart thudding in her chest . Desperately she needed some air but she held on and kicked the door and grabbed the handle, she shot through the hallway. Exhausted she slammed the door. The corridor was dry even molly was dry. She was back in the emporium but really more than wiser what happened?

Guiltily she tiptoed back, sneaked though the curtains and stepped into the shop. Mr. Rain stared at her, “Ah I see you have come back to us. Did you find what you were looking for?” molly shook her head.

“The thing is”, Mr. Rain explained, “you can visit many wonders but the past cannot be undone, so we do not always find what we expect. Still, there is always another day”, he put down the umbrella with a parrots head that he was polishing.

“come back another day”. He said, holding the door open. She felt the shiver of magic and shuddered. Maybe tomorrow, she thought to herself as she trudged home. Maybe tomorrow.

What she didn’t notice she was being followed by a parrot.
