The secret Emporium
Chapter 1- Through the door
Dexter had always been mischievous and his father had often warned him that it would get him into difficulty one sunny afternoon he was walking down ice lane when he notices something odd about the emporium .at last the door was open and without really thinking about it he stepped inside.
Everywhere he looked it was packed with wonders and things that he wanted to touch .leather books with spidery wringing. The tiny puppy’s that squired scurried and scampered around their crate. A kaleidoscope that beamed in the sun light as the colourful patterns appeared. A basket of parasols with frilly edges and talking animals heads on top.
Broad brimmed hats made of feathers and felt. Cups and plated decorated with hand painted flowers. Disturbing masks with grinning smiles. Huge dolls with wooden faces.
But what interested Dexter most all was an old leather bound book. As he turned the pages, scribbled in tiny writing which shoes a little boy playing football and when you turned it was a different picture that appeared.
“I see you’ve found the book of marvels.” Roared a voice. Dexter gasped, closed the book and looked up at the owner, He was an old man whose hair was as dark as a tree branch. On his shoulder sat a white barn owl. It shook its head disapprovingly.
Chapter 2 – a warning disobeyed
“My name is Miss Pratchett”
She said glancing at Dexter then he started fidgeting uncomfortably.
”this is my shop do you like it”? Dexter didn’t realise what she said so looked at the ground and nodded. “Here is my book of mystery. You are free to look around my shop but DON’T touch the book!”
A second later miss Pratchett had disappeared a swirl of hear mouldy green leather coat, behind a Curtin and Dexter was allowed recognised that he had been tapping his foot. He had meant to continue looking round the shop but there was something about the book that called to him. He peaked round the Curtin and could just see down along the empty corridor which had what appeared to be at least a hundred doors. Where do they lead to He wondered?
Turning back he opened the book. Each page contained a portal that sent you to different countries there were drawings and notes about every single country, continents, towns and villages and more. The next thing Dexter knew he was drawing lots of different countries then he saw the little baby jaguar said “follow me I will show you something amazing “puréed the jaguar Dexter new exactly what he was supposed to do. He opened the door and entered. He stepped not into a room but into lots of countries. You could see from chilly mountains tops to sunny beaches and holidays.
He paused a listened. It was quite still, expect the loud noise of safari animals running wild. The strangest thing was that it all looked exactly as the imagined; exactly as he had drawn inside Miss Pratchett’s book. Without pausing for a second, without looking back, without any concern, Dexter trundled in to the portal wondering where he would be teleported next.
Chapter 3-through the door
It was a charming pebble cottage with plants in the yard and vines growing up and around the pipe and gates. The door was open and without thinking about it; he stepped inside. His heart racing as usual. The house had everything that you might need: a warm cosy couch with a minute version of a china tea set. And a wood fire burning brightly a huge kitchen with grey cups, plates, utensils and more! a table that was set for a few people.
Hello called Dexter wondering if anyone else was there. But he was met by silence. He made his way along the corridor. There was no one in either the living room all through the couch seat was dented like someone had got up in a hurry a half a cup of tea and the TV was on.
He had thrown into his drawing a lifelong dream and it didn’t seem as if that was going to come true. There were no signs of his beloved pooch that he hadn’t seen in 4 years but he wasn’t there it didn’t feel right. Then he heard it.
Something up stairs something moving it was the floor board’s cracking.it was weird smashing sound accompanied by a high pitch squeal. He started up the stairs plucking up courage and slowly taking it step by step trying to keep dead silent. He paused and peered round the door into the bed room nothing moved. Only the ticking for the alarm clock.
Turning round he knocked the bed room door opened it was then he saw it a small black figure moved towards him! His black hair flew around in the wind flying through the broken glass. There was no hesitation this time. Dexter barged the cottage door open and sprinted as fast as lightning he dashed back up the pathway through the forest and towards were the door had been. but there was nothing there. nothing except for tall trees stretching endlessly with tweeting birds all over the place “come back” hissed a voice behind him!
CHAPTER 4 –THE RETURN
Turning away from the creepy voice that rang in his ears Dexter paused where he was sure that the door must have been roughtly standing. There was no door but there was a little tunnel that went a far way down hidden between a few vines. Peering into the dark tunnel he could just see what looked lick the shape of a door.
Immediately he hopped down into the tunnel Dexter expected it to be rocky and steep but it had little ledges that came out the sides of the tunnel. Luckily last summer he worked hard at school in his rock climbing lessons. And his teacher had told him he was an expert and had no fear. He could hear the sound of footsteps approaching fast. He took a deep breath and took a step in.
Down, down into the misty tunnel towards the outline of the door at the door at the very bottom of the tunnel. His heart pounded in his chest his heart beating faster and faster with each breath. Grasping the door handle he pulled. With an Eco the door creature open he shot through the door and in to the corridor exhorted he strived through it. The door was shut, the tunnel was misty and cold. He was back in the emporium but really none the wiser, what had happened
Cautiously he stepped back sneaked through the little cubby hole and stepped into the shop. Miss prachet glared at him.
“the thing is “miss prachet explained “you can visit many wonders but the past cannot be undone, so we do not always find what we expect still, there is always another day” she put down the small china tea set that she was polishing.
Come again another day “she said holding the door open Dexter stepped onto the path, curious to find out more, he spun around. But Miss prachet and the emporium had disappeared.it had vanished like it didn’t even exist he felt the shiver of magic and shudder. Maby tomorrow, he thought to his self as he struggled home. Maby tomorrow.
What he did not notice was being followed by a baby jaguar because it hid behind everything it saw and when he went home it sat in a plant pot.
