Day and Night-chapter 2 by Logan @ Belmont
The sun had hardly began to breathe into the windows of ticking tower when Jonathan woke up. Something was tapping at the door to their room. A beady eye peaked through the gap of the door, Jonathan sighed with relief. It was just the mail osolot with a message from their mother to say the tiger has destroyed Lonely Oak and last seen following there tracks over Lucky Lake. There was no time to loose. Jonathan checked the map and with the mail osolot help the band set off through a little forest and headed north.
As they set off, the forest was silent. There had been a blow of leafs during the night and red-ish leafs fell from the branches overhead, making walking harder. The wind blowed slowly.
Jonathan knew that it would be harder for the tiger to track them as it was impossible to see there footsteps in the swarm of leafs. By midday, they had reached the edge of the forest and there the osolots paused. Ahead, they could just see the outline of goblin palace. Perhaps we could hide there thought Jonathan.
Several hours later, the band found themselves skirting the towering walls of Tomlinson Palace. Fierce-some goblin soldier guarded the main gate, there green eyes glinting. So, Jonathan led Nathan and Annie round the walls until they found an entrance where a fox or Hager couldn’t fit through.
The darkness of the tunnel pressed in and the air was Moldy with goblins body oder but Jonathan led the way until at last they came out the other side. The goblin palace was the ideal place to hide. The tiger would not be welcome and as long as the osolots avoided being caught, they would be safe.
As night fell, Jonathan found a perfect hiding place. Deep in the alleyway, he found a cat bed. Up on the cat bed was pillows and space for three. It was clean and made a excellent to sleep. Outside, the leaves crumbled and crunched. Inside, Jonathan wondered about his mum and her safety. Annie cuddled up in the corner of the cats bed an soon fast asleep.
Jonathan slipped into the alleyway. They needed food. He kept to the shadows and looked around, snorts and snarls drifted through the silence as goblins muttered and argued. One or two passed goblins passed by the cats bed from the tavern their singing is worse then a howling wolf. At the other end of the alley, two street goblins spiked mice onto metal spikes and then roasted them on a grill.
Jonathan shuddered. The tiger were terrible; goblins were just as bad. From a deserted market stall, Jonathan stole a loaf of bread, rotten tomatoes, an onion, some meat and milk. At least they won’t be hungry.
At the moment, there was a call from one of the houses in the alleyway, “ Who are yer? And what do u have?” A drunken scabby face leered out from the window at Jonathan. Tucking himself into the shadow, his heart started beating rapidly. Jonathan froze. Something was now coming down the street towards him. He could hear itself towards the cat’s bed.
The street goblins each picked up a ragged rusted sword and came to him. Eating, Jonathan hoped he won’t be seen…
