the desert and the dark

Sand tree

Sand trees live in the desert.

They look like regular trees,

But when you try to cut them

They fall into the sand

Like nothing was ever there.

The branches are like burnt chips

And the trunk and bark

are soft like a teddy bear.

Fallen leaves scurry around like snakes

Trying to find a place to rest.

Shadow lily

They tend to move to darkness.

No matter where it is,

You can always find it

in those shady, dark spots.

The petals are as black as tar

And so is the stem.

The roots are like knives that

Can cut through granite.

It walks around to stay in the shade

and its pollen is actually pepper

that makes you sneeze

like you have hay fever
