Chapter 3

Lucy sprinted up and down the lonely, dusty walls like a cheetah hunting for its prey. On the other hand, Darren sat with a cold frown on his and tears rolling down his rosy cheeks.

“Are just going to sit there and do nothing or are you going to be of use?” Lucy declared, as she tapped her heel waiting for an answer.

“Why help when we will never escape.” Darren mumbled, looking at the empty walls.

“Get up and help me or I’ll drag you by the arms, what’s it going to be?” Lucy cried, as she put her hands on her hips and raised her brow.

Darren stammered “I…I think I’ll help.”

Lucy answered, “I thought so.”

Darren scratched his head, glimpsing around the dusty walls. Suddenly, something caught his eye, Lucy’s hairclip.

“That’s it. Give me your hairclip.” Darren cried, as he reached for the hairpiece.

“Fine.” Lucy moaned, as she took it out of her hair. Darren picked the familiar lock,

“I think I’ve got it.” He replied, trying his hardest to fiddle with it. Darren’s bright smile vanished and he stopped. Lucy stared into space and thinking, “What’s wrong Darren?” Lucy said, puzzeled.

Darren shouted, “The lock is fake!”

Lucy stammered, “What!”

Darren let out a big sigh, hung his head in shame and placed his back on the freezing wall and slumped to the floor.

Darren put his head in his hands. However, Lucy’s face went a rose red and she kicked the wall and punched the wall and screamed. Darren moved away and put his fingers in his ears. Lucy was full of rage so she punched the door. Suddenly, the door fell to the ground like a person fainting. Lucy said, “Oh how convenient!” Darren stood up and smiled “Let’s get out of here!” Lucy stated, as she glanced both ways. It was empty.

Lucy and Darren ran down the cold corridor. They still glanced both ways to be safe. They felt like they have been running for miles! They nearly got to the end until there was more paths. Lucy went left, Darren went right. Lucy sprinted her way out and there was the exit. “Darren I found the exit!” Lucy shouted. There was no answer. Meanwhile, Darren jogged a long way until he was stopped by the silver- eyed men. “Lucy!” Darren cried.

“Going somewhere?” The silver-eyed men asked. Darren went to the left path as hard as he could. Lucy bumped into Darren, “Quick c’mon!” Lucy cried. She grabbed his arm and pushed the exit door. Lightclaw was waiting outside. Lucy cried, “Lightclaw!” she winded up his ticks and they grabbed on his talons and flew away.

Finally, they reached their destination…A forest. They built a campfire and a den and collected some food. When Darren was asleep, Lucy and Lightclaw were still awake. Lightclaw flew to a few trees. Lucy looked up to the stars above. They twinkled and glistened. Lucy wondered, where is my family? And what happened to John Hartman’s inventions?
