Evacuee letter SWW
Dear mam,
Thank you for the Toffee, sandwiches and cheese it was delicious, all the other kids were jealous! Hands were being waved in the air by scared kids, as we departed. The journey was so much fun for all of us, it included the experience of many of us going on a train for the very first time!
Cards were played by kids, eager to win. I clutched my favourite graphic novel, one of my few items from Gloucestershire. I have no doubt that teddy bears were carried in every suitcase, by children from cities all around England. Me and my new friend Chloe (I met her on the train), found out we are being transferred to Stone. I miss you very much.
We all clambered out the train as it came to a stop, Chloe, Emma (her sister), and I made way to the village hall. As we got there we had to sit down on chairs Chloe, Emma and I sat next to each other. We were all very small. There was only one lady left, and Emma, Chloe and I were the only children left . So we were picked last by Ms Jessica.
She is really nice I think you would like her, of course you are my one and only mother. When this dreadful war is over I hope I can introduce you to her. I almost forgot to thank you for the brand new toy you packed! Ms Jessica works for a fancy and rich house owner, who lives in Newport house (its near hear) Chloe and I go with her to earn more, after all it’s the least we can do. I feel sorry that while Chloe and I are having fun cleaning in in Newport house; Emma is stuck in peacock primary. I’ve run out of paper now so I’ll write to you next week. From Ellie
