Chapter 3 of Emerald and Lizzy
The summer holiday seemed like it would last a year. Every day, Lizzy, her nickname now that she had accepted Mrs. Jill was family, checked her snares and wandered the fields. Without noticing, the slowly began to know the path around the place. Every week, she went to get the water from the spring. She got milk from the cows, eggs from the chickens and every one in a while, went fishing at the streams. It became more familiar than than the busy, bustling city streets. Unlike the city, everyone knew each other and it was a very helpful community. He loved watching all the daffodils swaying in the wind. She found a stillness that she had never seen before.
The only thing she worried about now was if someone spotted Emerald. In the day time she stayed in the depth of the forest and at night she went down all the back roads. But there was always that nagging feeling in the back of her mind that she may be seen.
It happened. One night towards the end of May. Lizzy was going home when Nayna shrieked. She had seen emerald. Nayna darted away, still shrieking. What now? The secret that had been covered up for years was uncovered. When she got home, Lizzy and Mrs. Jill talked long into the night. What were they going to do?
