Chapter 1
At last, the rabbits were ready to depart,
At the touch of noon, a note had arrived from a badger. It informed the warren that the Gorm were near and to get warriors ready for battle. The younger rabbits should get ready to evacuate. The Bluebell warrens’ walls were built many decades ago so they were unstable and unsafe. It could definitely not withstand a parade of raiders from the Gorm. Any burrow inside would get crushed and the most little, fragile rabbits most likely would get killed.
So it was, the three rabbits Pankin, the smartest one, Pookin, the bravest one, and Pebbles, the hungry one, set off on a quest for safety. To reach this point they would have to find their way in and out of the busy market of Fellance, then onto the small fishing town of Cliffside Claw. Then finally to The Outlanders Warren named Swordwrath.
Swordwrath has a magical force within it which the Gorm can not survive. This place can withstand mainland attacks like catapults and ballistas. When Pankin, Pookin and Pebbles left their warren, their mother gave them a mystical map- which can not be wielded by anyone not in their family. Unusually, the map showed trails which they had never seen before. It took them on tracks which they were not visible to passing rabbits on the main roads ways and paths.
Unfortunately, on the way to Fellance they had to make their way through the tenacious, pest infested mud. When they got into Fellance, they were welcomed by a crowd of people at stalls buying and selling items. Luckily, they were able to make it through the crowd of buyers to find a rentable tent to stay for the night. The noise and the amount of rabbits in Fellance made it a lot harder for the Gorm to capture them.
From the stroke of dusk, the trio of kits had a toothsome meal. They each had the same food: a turnip and radish soup with some dunk bread which filled them up for the night. When they were ready to hit the hay Pankin covered over their compact tent hoping they could not be seen or even watched.
Trying to rest, the sound of laughter and chatter from the inn near them kept them up for most of the night. Pookin only just realised that they had not paid yet, he quickly woke Pankin and said in a worried voice “Pankin we have not paid,” so they got up and paid for the tent and then went back to sleep. Pookin found it hard to sleep that night. He had threatening visions of the Gorm slicing their father into two pieces then piercing though his skin decapitating him. Could they really reach their safety?
