Chapter III

Months and months passed and this area became more and more familiar. Everyday, I go and say bye to Miss Natalie and then go on my way to the middle of the forest. On the way there, the forest feels so magical with fireflies at night and all these delightful flowers crowding around you waiting to be seen. The carmine red roses danced in the grass and flowed with the wind. The lavender flowers pranced all day long and gave a sweet scent like honey and the charming alstroemeria bobbed up and down and side to side through the day and night. The tall weeping trees carry birds secretly and provide a good hiding place underneath it. It really does feel so magical. At home it doesn’t have all of these things but here, it does have everything I ever need.

When I go to feed the jaguar, I would stay there for a while and have some bonding time with her. Sometimes, we sit in the middle of the forest and just breathe in and out for a few minutes in silence. Another time, we sat on a hill underneath the gazing stars, we stared at them for a good 30 minutes. She would usually sense something in the bushes and trees and disappear into them for a bit then come out with something new like mice, rabbits or even baby deer, so odd. Even though we have all these good times, I keep worrying about what might happen if she was found. What would they do to her? I can’t even imagine what would happen. I’ll just hope no one does find her.

As I hoped that no one would find her, the worst occurred. Turns out, someone followed me to the forest and saw the jaguar. It was someone from my school, I think the name’s Leo. I knew someone was following me because the jaguar was twitching its ears and making strange sounds. Then there was rustling in the bushes.

“Th – th – th – there’s a jaguar right next to you!” stammered Leo.

“I know, just stay calm and don’t panic.”

“But-.”

“Don’t say anything.”

The jaguar was getting down and ready to pounce so Leo ran away abruptly, shouting things like “I’m going to die” and “The world is going to end”. I went back to Miss Natalie and had to talk about it with her throughout the night. Our options were limited but there were still a few to choose from like moving her to a different forest, keeping her in our garden and a couple more. What do we do now?
