Evacuee Letter (recount) By Ava SWW

Dear Mum,
What a amazing time I have had already! Quietly, when the train began to leave, I sat in the itchy chair thinking about crying but I couldn’t get Noah and Freddie scared. I thought about all of the fabulous adventures that were waiting for me in Stone and how I would see you again one day. You will never believe it! I saw a mysterious animal which I think is called a cow!
Thanks so much for the cheese sandwich and toffee treat it was really lovely: kept me full up the entire way! The train journey honsetly wasn’t that bad at all. I met a kind girl called Ella Thompson, she shared her comic books with me! Freddie and Noah are doing great, really they are. They have also made a friend who is looked after by Ella. I am looking after the boys just as you said -they havn’t left my sight- and (by the way) Noah is still talking about having a dog in the new house!

Finally, after being on the train for many hours, we stopped at a hault. Suitcases were snapped shut like a group of crocodiles, tears were wiped away and some even cheered. Eventually, we were escorted to the village hall. I continued to bite by lip and breathe heavy. I had never felt so nervous in my life. A few minute later the billeting officer called my name, “Violet Jones!” I shook waiting to hear the boys names: they didn’t call them. I sat pretending that my name wasn’t Violet. Suddenly, the billeting officer began to check tags and thats when I got worried. I cried harder than I ever had before. She was going to send me away with a middle aged woman who was as tall as me! Now that’s when Anne stepped in; when she saw how devastated I was she argued with this lady and sent her out of the hall. Anne is lovely! She cooks us all delicious meals: bread and butter, cheese, eggs and sausage.

Freddie and Noah collect the eggs whilst I milk the cow. After we finish our jobs we play tag on the huge field. But we have not been to school yet which is unusual. Anyway, I have run out of paper.
Love you Mum! Miss you soooo much! I hope to see you soon.
Lots of love, Noah, Freddie and Vi!
