Chapter 1-Ibrahim’s delivery
It was a chilly night in November. The mist hovered above Iblociously. A bunch of lights had been lit, forming shadows in microscopic places.
Ibrahim Ali, forgetting the mist, was jogging to the checkpoint. He grabbed his ripped jacket and shuddered as the mist wrapped around him at Mahmood’s street.
He was watching as a security guard was checking people’s passports and parcels, turning most of them back from the border, between the dull town and the rest of Iblociously, where the rich and posh lived.
“Quickly now,NEXT!” screamed the guard, lifting up the pole. He snatched the parcel and pass from Ibrahim’s hand. “Where are you going ?” he shouted, looking up and down at Ibrahim, curiously.
“ I’m delivering some fantastic footballs to entertain some kids, it’s my father’s business.” Ibrahim whispered, fidgeting with his thumbs. The guard sniffled and nodded his head, slowly.
Minutes later, Ibrahim was strolling through the posh town. Here the roads were longer, glass windows shone and the people gossiped, carelessly. Ibrahim dreamt and wished that he was the same as everyone else and not a foreigner.
Running down, Hussain’s street, Ibrahim put his head back into his neck, scared that someone would see. Head down, let no one see you. His father drilled this into his brain many times.
He turned around as a mysterious woman was staring at him, jolting towards him, pulled his ear and threw him into the corner of an alley.
“This is mine now,” she exclaimed ,yanking Ibrahim’s footballs. There was silence. “And all of your money !” she added. Ibrahim rolled through her legs, pushed the woman on the floor, and ran for his life.He slid under some scaffolding. The end of his run was stopped by a dead end …
The woman’s shadow cast, down the street, was nearing towards Ibrahim. It seemed to gigantify and hold his bony, small ear. He could see the woman’s fiery, greedy eyes as she took big steps towards him, Then he saw a dumbwaiter filled with rotten food. A millisecond later, he was inside.
