chapter 1 the run way

Chapter 1

It was a stormy afternoon in February, the fog

Cleared down and smothered the darkening streets of

Turkey. A few cars were going off and on, casting

Shadows in corners where anything might be hidden.

Wee Billy Joe ignored the fog. As he was staring

Ahead at the checkpoint. He put on his fluffy coat

closer and shivered as another gust of fog swept down

Creek road.

He could see the army  checking people’s luggage,

Turning most of them back to the border between

The lower town and the rest of creek road, were the

Largest house stood.

“Next,” snapped the soldier, stamping his feet. He

Held out a taser, his glove and wee billy joe handed

over is pass. “where are you heading, young man?”

He snapped, staring at wee billy joe.

A moment later, the soldier found something cash

He said “where did you get the money?”. Wee billy joe

Got scared and ran far away until he made it

creek road then on of the soldiers were chasing

Him and then he got away.

Talking a short cut down creek road, wee billy joe

lowered his head afraid to catch anyone’s eye. Head down, keep out of trouble. His dad had drummed that into him so many times.

He swung round as a man that he hadn’t noticed

Before, rapidly approached, grabbing his arm and tugging him into the shadows at the side of the alley.

“I’ll be having that”, he said, grabbing wee billy joe’s

Parcel. There was a pause. “Plus any cash you have!”

Wee billy joe  ducked down, stamped on the man’s boot and ran up the alley, ducking down a siding. But the end was blocked by a tall, brick wall!

The man’s shadow cast down the siding towards wee billy joe It seemed to stretch out and hold him in its invisible, ebony arms. Wee Billy Joe gasped. He could see the man’s eyes glittering with greed as he shuffled forwards, towards wee billy joe Then he noticed a small doorway tucked behind a pile of rubbish and, a moment later, he was inside.
