Dark light

Have you ever gone on a sky ship? No? Holiday on a boat then, feel the wind flowing through your hair, you look down and see the sea, a sky ship is a bit like that, imagine you looked down to see villages, towns, cities and even countries! Now just imagine it…

Jamie and his younger sister Lily are from a little town on the edge of a city, Jamie is scared for his sister and lonely, being twelve is all about looking after Lily, Lily is a brave heroine but annoyed that she is only ten as no one takes her seriously. Their parents told them that the sky ship ‘dark light’ would be theirs one day and every night the two children went to bed with their head busting of dreams of piloting ‘dark light’. they recently lost their parents in an immense blizzard, thirteen days later their bodies, found thin, weak and covered in a watery red liquid, believed to be blood and a curved tooth sinking into the woman’s heart…

Two children called Jamie and Lily were once again staring at a mighty sky ship labelled ‘Dark Light,’ Once again, “it will be ours,” quoted Jamie, Lily began to cry; that was the words their Mum and Dad had said right before… Lily pushed the unwelcome memory of the past away, Jamie squeezed her hand “it’ll be all right,” he whispered but Lily never thought the sun would come out again.

The next morning when Jamie woke, he was alone, not to do with his parents, gone, but something else, “Lily!” he squealed, there was no reply… Jamie rushed out of the door to see the mighty sky ship hovering about to leave, there was no time to spare he ran past the houses on the street and trees in the park, “Lily!” he screamed as the sky ship went to leave,                                                              “Jamie?” she cried. Jamie leaped onto a rope hanging off the ship, he grabbed it! He yanked himself up! He lost his grip and began tumbling down, just as he was as good as gone he caught the flailing rope and hoisted himself up onto the deck. Lily hugged him, “I thought you were a goner!” she cried

The two children sat alone on the deck, listening to the engines of the sky ship that they had prayed would be theirs. The hours hung in the breeze like dewdrops on a spider’s web. Time couldn’t get more peaceful, there and then nothing else mattered in the world. When they awoke it was almost pitch black, they must have been asleep for several hours, the third continent was in sight! But the ship careered of to one side and down, an engine must have failed! The crew launched their parachutes and like feathers glided away from the ship, Lily and Jamie had no parachute and no way to escape what was inevitable…

They landed with an almighty smash but Lily was nowhere to be seen, the silence filled him with horror…
