Journey to the 5 Mountains

Introduction

Jane wrapped her hands round the bars, struggling to grip, as her brother Benjamin used all his strength to help her up. Jane had been looking over the side of the air ship too far and had suddenly fallen overboard. Benjamin who was sweaty and tired, (and not the strongest 10-year-old boy) was trying his hardest to save his sister. They needed to stay together to reach their destination; The Five Mountains. A journey that had been explored but no one had ever managed to come back to tell the story.

Chapter 1

The captain rushed down to the bottom deck of the airship to see what had happened and yanked Jane back up onto the airship’s deck. As the red-faced captain went to see if Benjamin was alright, he realized he had made a big, no, a huge mistake…

At that moment the airship started to rock. It tipped up and down and soon barrels and supplies were hanging off the edge and falling. Eventually the captain made his way to the top deck where the steering was controlled and turned on the self-control system before he grabbed a parachute and dived off the airship making his way to safety, leaving Jane and Benjamin struggling to get back up again.

“What was that?” Benjamin questioned.

“I think the steering department was a little bit out of control!” replied Jane with a giggle.

“Well I’m glad its all over now,” they both agreed.

As soon as they were both up and standing, a massive thud was heard from the top deck, forcing them to jolt back down to the deck. Meanwhile, In the distance a blur was appearing, getting closer and closer towards the airship. A crafty dragon (called Minerva) was sneaking onto the ship and controlling the steering wheel. As the airship tipped over, further and further, the children were flung up and forced to jump off the railings into the teal blue sea below. In the distance they saw some sort of mountain, looking exactly like the one on the map.  As they swam towards this mountain they realized that it wasn’t just a mountain, but an island, a somewhat abandoned looking place. Jane and Benjamin hurried on to the shore and looked up thinking it was their mission solved, before seeing no snow, just sand and a volcano.

“This isn’t one of The Five Mountains is it Jane?” exclaimed Benjamin looking up at the vast landscape.

“I don’t think it is,” replied Jane looking worriedly across the shore…
