Chapter I… Problems Occur

“3, 2, 1…”

The countdown had finally begun. After months of preparation, Archie and Adeline were ready to follow their dreams. Enthusiastically, they hopped onto their sky ship: ‘The Shadow Whisperer’, slightly anxious about the journey ahead.

“Are we ready? Have we got everything?” Adeline questioned, feeling a certain urge to check through the luggage once more.

Archie replied with a nod and told her everything would be fine. Eventually, they clambered onto the ‘Shadow Whisperer’, departed and soon faded into a blur.

 

The journey started off with the children whizzing on their sky ship, but soon they were travelling at a walking pace. The sun had arrived at its highest point and as it sunk into the skyline, a cascade of colours showered the (heavens?) sky.

 

Without warning, the inky fingers of darkness sucked Adeline and Archie away from the heavens, like metal to a

magnet. Soon, they were drawn into a thick, overpowering fog.

 

Adeline clamoured, “What are we going to do?”

At this point, Archie didn’t have a clue. He took his bag from his shoulders and rummaged through it. He found a cardboard box, overflowing with ideas, to help when he was lost. He suddenly had a perception.

“We have matches.”

Suddenly, Adeline remembered she had packed a lamp for emergencies. Quickly, Archie set a wooden match on fire and slowly took it over to Adeline, placed it onto the candle inside the lamp, and set it alight.

Precipitously, they realized that they were heading for a gargantuan mountain. Archie tried to steer the ship to safety, but it was too late. They had two options: jump or die.

Adeline prepared their parachutes and Archie collected their backpacks. Pulling open the side door, Adeline shouted,

“Jump! Before it’s too late!”

They both launched themselves from their Sky Ship, not knowing when they would land…
