High Flights

You’ve probably been on a long car journey waiting to arrive at your destination. Remember how it feels when you gaze out the window and admire the magnificent views. Well, that is exactly how it feels to be on a Sky Ship. Soaring past the sun lit sky having the time of your life until…

Chapter I… Problems Occur

“3, 2, 1…”

The countdown had finally begun. After months of preparation, Archie and Adeline were ready to follow their dreams. Enthusiastically, they hopped onto their sky ship: ‘The Shadow Whisperer’, slightly anxious about the journey ahead.

“Are we ready? Have we got everything?” Adeline questioned, feeling a certain urge to check through the luggage once more.

Archie replied with a nod and told her everything would be fine. Eventually, they clambered onto the ‘Shadow Whisperer’, departed and soon faded into a blur.

The journey started off with the children whizzing on their sky ship, but soon they were travelling at a walking pace. The sun had arrived at its highest point and as it sunk into the skyline, a cascade of colours showered the (heavens?) sky.

Without warning, the inky fingers of darkness sucked Adeline and Archie away from the heavens, like metal to a

magnet. Soon, they were drawn into a thick, overpowering fog.

Adeline clamoured, “What are we going to do?”

At this point, Archie didn’t have a clue. He took his bag from his shoulders and rummaged through it. He found a cardboard box, overflowing with ideas, to help when he was lost. He suddenly had a perception.

“We have matches.”

Suddenly, Adeline remembered she had packed a lamp for emergencies. Quickly, Archie set a wooden match on fire and slowly took it over to Adeline, placed it onto the candle inside the lamp, and set it alight.

Precipitously, they realized that they were heading for a gargantuan mountain. Archie tried to steer the ship to safety, but it was too late. They had two options: jump or die.

Adeline prepared their parachutes and Archie collected their backpacks. Pulling open the side door, Adeline shouted,

“Jump! Before it’s too late!”

They both launched themselves from their Sky Ship, not knowing when they would land…

Planet Dragon

Time stops,

The dragon halts.

Captivating eyes are like pools of crystallized water.

Furfuraceous skin as rough as sandpaper, yet smooth to the touch.

Her wistful grin like an eternal wheel of happiness.

Jagged teeth twist and turn like a key unlocking a door.

Her spiked tongue arid like milk powder.

Scintillating scales are tears galloping down a child’s cheek.

Swanlike wings stretch as she readies herself for flight.

Her formidable spine like a long-billed curlew’s beak,

Her antelope horns like a misshapen smile.

Like ice axes, barbed claws grip the glaciers that are as tall as fir trees on a frosty winter’s night…

She flies away from the heavens and towards the inky fingers of darkness, where she prepares herself for the journeys ahead.

The Adventurous Dragon

On the edge of a cliff stood a proud creature that we have named The Dragon. As he stares into the pink sunset his evil eyes narrow, as he tried to spot his distant victim.

The skin that lays just above his dry bones is like a country-side farm road with giant potholes created by horse carriages.

A bunch of razer sharp teeth that are as pointy as carving knives cutting into a bloody beef. And behind there is a pair of piercing jaws ready and open to snap.

His ridged spine bleeds down his long back like an ancient railway track.

Wings spread out as takes off into the adventurous skies of Cornwall.

His talons open up ready to catch the poor victim who is about to be a scrumptious piece of food.

Back at home his claws, which are like burning candles, scrape its p preys’ soft skin ready for dinner…

His slimy tongue slurps at the animals’ juicy blood as his bristles brush against the wet bones of a rabbit.

Beneath the surface of the sea

You are fluorescent coral, glistening like lamps in a London street, creating a pulchritudinous passage.

You are the orchard of swaying seaweed deep in the murky depths.

You are the froth pulled into the bays like a white horse galloping towards the amber sunrise.

You are the shop of shells that I swim past every day.

You are the unforgotten sound of pebbles tumbling towards the sandy shores.

You are the unsighted shipwrecks with chambers of a million fortunes.

You are the shadows of a pyjama shark hunting its prey.

You are an isolated, ancient sculpture standing tall and proud deep in the sonorous silence.

You are the melodic song of the dolphins that communicate with one another, dipping in and out of the sea.

You are the glimmer of the sun on the surface of the sea like a fairy tale coming true.

You are the trail of bubbles that float up to the surface and burst with an obstreperous pop.

You are the distance between Poland and Sweden.

You are the scintillating necklace wedged between marbled stones.

You are the cormorant diving elegantly into the lustrous waters.

You are the moment between a wave collapsing and a child laughing.

You are one and only ocean.

Love

Love

You are a kind heart, ready to fill peoples minds with curious joy and happiness,

You are a pair of arms, waiting for someone to come along and give you a cuddly warm hug,

You are the day of the year, were love is the focus and gifts are given all around, smiles are shared nicely proud!

You are the sound of Christmas cheer, that everyone can hear, waiting for someone to sit right under your mistletoe,

You are the sweet smell of chocolate, waiting to be munched as a little girl eats you for your lunch.
