Chapter 3

At the stroke of midnight, Xander was quietly crying to himself as Alex was pacing around the attic. Alex was searching for their escape. She was sprinting through the attic but there was no escape. The window was too small and no floorboards were loose. They were too far away from the road so no one could hear them.

Every couple of minutes, Alex spun around and annoyed Xander saying, “Why are you sitting there looking like a Freddo? You could be helping trying to find a way out of here. It would be very helpful!” However, Xander was sitting there miserably daydreaming. But Alex had other ideas, he remembered there was a secret room that had a slide that led to the back garden

Frustratedly, he spun back around once again and said, “I can’t do it on my own, I am not superman!”

“We are trapped, there is no point helping if we are stuck here forever, you are not doing anything!” said Xander.

“I am doing more than you. At least we will get out if we use the power of teamwork. If you help me and I help you we will get out and beat him!”

Just as Alex was drifting off to sleep, he heard a tired voice coming from the tiny window. It was Skye. She purred sleepily, “Give me some wind ups please! I am begging you.” Alex reached out of the window to the small key between her neck and shoulder blades and turned it.

A second later, when Skye was fully charged, she dropped a key and Skye said, “Time to get out of this dreadful place!”

Slowly, Alex spun the key around. At first they didn’t think it was going to click but then they heard a loud CLICK and the trap door opened. They peered out and they thought they heard something but it was just hail hitting the gutters. The next thing they knew they were running past drains and dead trees and grass. Alex and Skye ran for their lives leading the way with Xander not too far behind. In the distance they saw a large graveyard so they hid behind a large oak tree to get their breath back. Alex and Xander, who were terrified, jumped in the freezing cold water, helped Skye across the river and they all got out and started running again.
