The incoming week, it snowed hard. Snow camouflaged every building in sight; snow poured on cars and vehicles, as if it were glazing a cake in frost white icing; snow was absolutely everywhere, like they lived in a cotton wonderland. This was like a never ending supply of snow, it was enough to make the world’s biggest snowman! School was now shut down just like every other place. They had to stay inside day after day, her parents must’ve been now worried about her. It would be impossible to find Phoenix now. It wasn’ even winter yet though! Miss Levine was panicking that if the snow didn’t end soon, they would be trapped inside forever, or that Carol and her would catch colds and fevers.
However, this entire time she could’ve been finding Phoenix. Anymore time wasted, by time she’d actually find Phoenix, the cub would’ve been dead. Afterall, she was a tiny little puppy, but very ferocious, she’d probably escaped by now. Phoenix had nowhere to go, nowhere to sleep and nothing to eat. But if she’d want to find her, her first step was, she’d have to explore the city way more. At Least all those days of returning home with sore feet after a never-ending journey had paid off.She knew half of the city, now she’d just had to know the way to the half.
Inside, she’d known herself as safe and secure but outside she’d see herself struggling through pounds of snow. The snow grasped onto her wet boots making her sink down below as if she were forced to step in quicksand. She searched up and down, left and right but nothing.Just a frosty, plain frame. It seemed like she was just staring at a blank wall for how clear the snow was. She thought she’d heard a howl, but to her mistake her only response was the deadly -27.2℃ whisper of wind.
She marched all the way to Mr and Mrs Smith’s (Jade’s Parents) little wooden hut, just two roads away from the Everglade forest. She stopped on their wooly entrance carpet and knocked 3 times. They had a big, thick red door, so when leaned in her ear to listen for a reply, all she heard were muffled mumbles. She absolutely couldn’t make out what they were saying, so she knocked again. This time the door opened smoothly but slow, and when she popped her head inside the dark house no one was there. But if no one was there, who’d opened the door? She carefully stepped inside to recheck. Again, no one was there. Then, suddenly, the lights flashed on and off and again on. She could hear the swift movements of something brushing the floor. All of a sudden, Mrs Smith came out of a pitch-black corridor, with a bronze broom. “ Oh sorry, I thought I’d unlocked the door back then, come in, come in, welcome”, She said enthusiastically.
Cheryl was sweeped onto a couch, to see a bowl of certain fruits she’d never seen before. “Thank you Mrs Smith. You’ve a really clean house . But also, excuse me but do you happen to know where Jade is please?” She asked politely. It took her a minute to answer.“ Well, she did say she was leaving to go to the park, remember the one near your school, well that’s it.”She answered. “ Ok then, thank you, that’s where I’m heading then” replied Cheryl. She got up and left the house, closing the mighty door behind her slowly. She skipped all the way to her school park, to see it empty, with only a rusty swing swinging side to side. She sighed heavily.Would she ever see Phoenix again?
Well you see, this is just a long and lost memory. I never saw Phoenix again, but did hear news about her. She later died when I turned 17 but it didn’t bother me much. I knew trouble was seeking for her and there’s her ending. I was twelve back then, a soft little kid like a trembling, feared mouse. I now work here in an office, being an evacuee did not suit me. Just when I turned 23, I got my own house bigger than Miss Levine’s. Carol caught some sort of illness and died too when she turned 15. Well not everyone gets a happy ending. I’m also training to make medicines and cures for both animals and humans, so I can never lose anyone in my life any more. Jade moved away to some other country with her parents, and Miss Levine still weeps and sniffs on about how Carol was her precious little girl, even though she’s 95. She’ll die soon too if she’s not careful. I didn’t get to see my parents anymore, but they were older than Miss Levine so they probably died too. I never heard from any of my classmates, but since I’m grown up now, I can do whatever I want. I didn’t want to get another pet, because I knew what was coming for me. All of my family’s stories turned upside down, but mine however, ends differently.
