Sad and lonely, the ancient , rusty bike leans against the fence , his only friend.
The wheels are elegant spinning machines but working no more.
The saddle brings memories when a person had owned the bike racing and rushing down hills.
The rapid pedals were once the movement, the thing which powered the speed but now it rusts away.
The brakes give warm memories , where you fell but came back up,where you pressed very strongly and where you protected yourself from a fall.
The handlebars are the control of the bike , where the bike went , travelling through woods and cities , but now it hasn’t been used, without the sweaty grip of hands, it goes into a life of lone.
I look at you and I think about the times we raced together , rushing at full speed , where we always went to that favourite Chipstead Hill which I like, with the wind rushing over me.
I look at you and I think you may have wasted away, you may be all filthy and you may not be shiny anymore, but you are a bike and you always will be.
