Dear Ma,
Thanks a bunch for the ham butty, it were right yummy. On top of that, thanks for the extra blanket, it was proper cold on the train. When we got to Huddersfield Station, in Yorkshire, it was damp and dirty and it smelled like old socks.
As soon as I stepped out onto the platform, I noticed that there were thousands of people and that the station was packed full. Anyway, the lady that picked me was called Mrs Patricia. She also picked another boy and a girl, I didn’t know their names. Where we’re staying there’s lots of fields, I’m so excited to go out and play in the long grass. There’s also a cattle shed and a chicken coop out back.
I have discovered that the boy’s name is James and the girl’s name is Peggy. There are two cows living in the cattle shed and their names are Howard and Edwin. Guess what mum there’s also a big spiral staircase and it looks like it would be fun to slide down it, but I won’t because you raised me to be sensible.
We had loads of fun on Saturday, when we woke up Mrs Patricia told me to go and get some eggs from the chicken coop. She told James to get some bacon and sausages from the village butchers and she told Peggy to go to the village garden and pick some tomatoes. Then we all went to the village grocery shop to get some bread and mushrooms. Then Mrs Patricia made us all breakfast and then we ate it and then we went out to the meadow. After that we found a tree and made a swing out of an old tire and some rope. It was right fun.
The village is very small and the town centre is only a 10 minute walk from the house which makes it very easy to get to school. Mrs Patricia’s house is on Evergreen Way. The butcher shop is on the same street as the grocery shop.
The school is on Stanning Street and is a normal size for a school, the classrooms are small but we all manage. I’ve been focusing a lot on my multiplying and handwriting. Me, James and Peggy have become friends and we sit next to each other in school. My teacher is called Mr Davis and he is really nice to us.
For lunch Mrs Patricia gives me a bacon, ham, chicken, cucumber, tomato, lettuce, sweetcorn and cheese sandwich. They are right good, I could show you how to make it when I get back. Anyway we normally do maths first, then science but last Friday we did English then R.E which was proper strange. Mr Davis said that I’m good at reading and maths, I find them right boring though.
Anyway I hope that England wins. I have been praying for you and Dad and the King every night.
From your loving son,
Steve
