Chapter 2 Spellbound Locket
Chapter 2
Turning round, Coco and George could barely see Waverspoon Manor through the thick fog. Skeletal trees lined the driveway. Shivers crept down Coco’s back. Snow blanketed the floor. Coco’s boots sunk into the snow. Fearless flew slowly above Coco’s head. The house groaned tiredly as the heavy snow landed on it. As the drive was so long, it took a while for them to get to the house. As they advanced toward the front door, they noticed that the door seemed to be rotting. Shaking, Coco clutched the door handle. She decided to kick the door to free it from the snow’s grasp.
The house was dark. George flicked the light switch. The light came on. The light was dim so Coco grabbed a candle holder and placed a candle inside. Luckily the candle produced more light. Creeping cautiously, Coco and George clambered up the crooked stairs. On the left of the staircase, was Coco’s bedroom. The floorboards creaked. Into Coco’s bedroom they walked. Fearless went too. She perched on the bedside table with the locket in the talons. The chain slipped out of her talons. Smiling, Coco took the locket. Her bedroom looked as it had before she left. Book in bookshelves and pens in pots.
“Isn’t this one of the most valuable pieces of jewellery in London?” George enquired. Sadly, Coco nodded her head. “It’s so valuable that robbers are out to get it.” Coco whispered. “ I think that the people who killed my dad for the robbers who are trying to get the locket. “
“Sorry.” George whispered.
A frown came up on Coco’s face. “Adults these days, especially thieving ones.” She groaned.
“Well, well, well,” came an echoing voice in the hallway. Coco and George peered round. Fearless gazed sharply. His black-hole eyes stared directly at the locket. He had slick black hair, a long face, a skinny body and needle-like legs. He shoes looked like they were sharp enough to pop a balloon. He crossed his arms and tapped his foot. Scarily, he reached out his fingers to snatch the locket. Coco recognised his peculiar acts. Sneakily, he shoved the locket in his pocket and tiptoed down the stairs. Coco recognised him. Then she realised. It was Mr Tree from her English lessons. Coco could not believe her eyes. “Isn’t that the evil Mr Tree from English?” Asked George.
“Correct” said Fearless.
Suddenly, a rather familiar noise traveled up the staircase. The door was locked and Coco, George and Fearless were still inside. A purple gas was enveloping the room. Unfortunately, George and Coco were too engrossed in the books and checking all the different spines. Just then, Coco and George began to feel sleepy. They fell to the floor. Mr Tree kicked the door. He scooped up the pair and pranced down the stairs. Outside the door was a wagon. Lazily, he threw them into the wagon. The wagon creaked. Now everyone climbed into the wagon. The horses trotted off. When the two woke up, they noticed two things: Fearless wasn’t with them and they were somewhere new. Their arms were chained to the walls.
