The sad ending

Chapter 4 – Paragraph 1

The next morning there was a storm. Thunder growled outside from behind the clouds cackling over the weeping willow trees, spying through chimneys and scaring the customers at the fish and chip shop. Mrs Kilding can’t hear a foghorn with her earmuffs on. She’s inside vacuuming the house because today was presentable house day. However, Suzie is upstairs looking out the window, thinking about Alexa. She had to save her. Suzie put on her anorak and faced the harsh rain.Outside, the rain was better than she had expected. She could walk like it was a nice summer day. Inside, she could see Mrs Kilding dancing to her favourite song while making her delicious Victorian sponge cake. Oh, how Suzie loved that. Surprisingly, by the time Suzie had finished admiring Mrs Kilding’s cake the sun had come out making a polished rainbow that flashed through Suzie’s eyes. Suzie skipped along the road that led to the forest.

  • Paragraph 2

She stopped by Mr Cojine’s house and questioned him about his daughter. He always knew the word on the street so why wouldn’t he know where his own daughter was.

“ Hello  Mr Cojine. Have you by any chance seen Millie?” Suzie said in a posh voice .

“ You better not step in here looking like a dead rat. Gosh why is my Mil-Mils friends with such a grimy girl?! Oh and for the record Millie said that she needed some ‘alone’ time.” he spat harshly in Suzie’s face.

Suzie turned around back into what has now become heavy, drastic rain. She passed by the church to pray for Alexa.

“Oh God oh God please help me out of this depression.” Suzie prayed on and on until she knew nothing was going to happen. She just had to find Millie. Maybe she was already spreading the news. Suzie sobbed as the storm spoke her words, “Millie where are you? I need to find you!”

Now all of this happened over 40 years ago, I am a financial advisor and mental health doctor. Sadly, Mrs Kilding passed away leaving all her property to me including her house and Alexa but Suzie doesn’t realise that Alexa is dead. However, Millie had an unexpected accident and her result was memory loss. She doesn’t even remember her own name anymore. I still dream about Alexa, a faint voice calling her name while I’m running through a corridor waiting to see her. It’s almost like her image has been erased from my memory. Maybe it’s just because I’m getting old. The faint memory of a forever bond.

Not a secret anymore

The summer holidays leaped as fast as the BFG. Suzie checked her pockets as she walked gleefully towards the forest. Outside, the countryside voices overlapped Suzie ears as the road behind became history. The sky hugged itself into the shape of Alexa as Suzie looked up. Usually, when Suzie was back home she could hear her brother saying rude things to her but nowadays it was just joy and laughter all around her.

Late in the evening, Suzie would make her way through the bushes to find Alexa’s cave where she would be snoring lightly. Every night, The two best friends would gaze at the night sky, keeping eachother warm in their little fleece blanket. Sometimes, Suzie would watch Alexa trot off into the woods, coming back with her own little feast. Suzie would giggle as she ferociously chomped on it. Alexa’s nose would twitch to the smell of dead deer and before you knew it she was gone in a blink, coming back with her second feast. You could hear owls hooting, foxes howling, mice squeaking and your warm fire blazing through your pupils. Suzie knew that Alexa was scared that poachers might come and hunt her and she wasn’t the only one. In the daytime, Alexa would have to force herself to sleep in the corner of her cave so that her bright fur was nearly impossible to see.  At night, her fur just bothered her. When she tried to hunt her prey would see her, when she tried to hide from Suzie she was noticeable and most of all when she tried to sleep predators would disturb her. They were both scared.

Their thoughts happened though. One evening, when Suzie was climbing through the bushes she heard a shriek then a growl. She knew something was up. She sprinted as fast as a racecar only to find Millie (her school best friend for life) shakingly pointing at Alexa.

“S-s-snow leopard,” she stutters, “ you’re hiding a snow leopard.”

Suzie walks up to Alexa stroking her back to calm her down.

“What are you doing here Millie?” she asks through clenched teeth. By the time Suzie turned around Millie was making a run for it screaming “Snow leopard! Snow leopard!”

“We need to take you someplace else.” Suzie knew it was the right thing to do. Soon after, she found herself sobbing words like “I didn’t mean to do this to her,” and “This is all my fault.”

“Deary me,” Mrs. Kilding tutted, “I guess we’ll have to move her back to the house.”

Suzie wiped her tears “Really, we can really do that?”

“Yes my dear. Now stop crying or else you’ll end up a bony rat like me.”

They walked along to the door as the sun tucked itself into bed.

Suspicious Suzie

Suzie trudged up the creaky stairs furiously. Why did Mrs Kilding have so many rules? Why was she so strict? Outside, thunder roared as loud as a lion.Inside, Suzie could smell something yummy from downstairs but she was too annoyed to race down gobble it all.Her door slammed shut.

Life at home and school were pretty much the same for Suzie except school was worse. She had to sit at the back of the classroom where she couldn’t see the tiny writing of her teacher all the way at the front. At lunch, Suzie barely had any space to sit down let alone any friends.Mrs Kilding was kind enough but could be kinder. She’d give her less of the amount in her ration book, hoard all the fire in the winter and have a strict dress code in the house.Suzie would have to face it. Her new life isn’t what she thought.

Over time, Suzie began to realise that Mrs Kilding had been a little bit mysterious the past few days and Suzie got sent to bed earlier now.So one night when Suzie went upstairs instead of going to bed she hid behind the cupboard. It seemed like Mrs Kilding was heading over to the countryside. Outside, the night’s mist howled with the twinkling stars.Inside, Suzie could feel a cool breeze flowing through her bony arms.

Suzie couldn’t wait anymore. She had to find out what Mrs Kilding was doing, but how? Suzie waited. Just when Mrs Kilding left she raced for the door.It was locked.Luckily, she knew where the spare key was and twisted it as fast as a snake’s bite.Mrs Kilding wasn’t far ahead.Suzie approached.

“What are you doing here!” Mrs Kilding shouts, shocked.Suzie explained herself. It turns out that Mrs Kilding was hiding a snow leopard.

“This is Alexa. She reminds me of my son,Alex fighting the war.”

Suzie gasped.

A letter of hope

Dear Ma,

Thanks for the burning warm jacket potato you packed. It made the bumpy ride seem a lot more calming, almost like you were there with me.Soon after what seemed like an eternity we finally jolted to a stop. Through the windows of the station Glasgow seemed like a beautiful place to be.I silently stood, waiting for my future carer to take me home.I saw all my friends going away until there was only me left.Suddenly, I saw a lady with a crooked back walking towards me.She grabbed me by her wrinkly hand and dragged me across the station.

It turns out that she was called Mrs Kilding and was nowt like us.She has a giant farm just outside the countryside.I’ve also got some jobs on the farm such as, feeding the cow Bessie, making sure that the chickens don’t fly out of there pen(it has a very short fence) and making the pig as fat as can be.However, she talks in a high pitched voice and has 2 cups of tea every morning, she says that you can never have to much tea.

My room is down in the basement and has lots of books to read so I’m never quite bored. At night I kneel on my pillow and pray for you,Dad Maisie and Tom.Sometimes the wolves howling in the night can scare me but Mrs Kilding lets me sleep in the spare bed next to hers.Every day, I wake up to the cockerel or the cow. If I’m good enough at keeping the chickens in their pen Mrs Kilding lets me collect their eggs and makes me some boiled eggs and bacon.

You won’t believe what happened yesterday. While I was cleaning Nessie the pig’s snout she let out a big burp right into my nose then jumped on me!

The townspeople are very nice and made me feel more at home by giving me one of their items every day but that all depends on my ration book.

My teachers aren’t the greatest but they did give me a seat at the back and a workbook. There are some bullies who make fun of me for being an evacuee and that I was living with an old lady.I have friends that have my back but sometimes bully me as well. Some people think I should’ve gone to Numjee School instead of Friar-Lawrence Forbes School.

I just want you to know that I will keep praying for you and that we beat Adolf Hitler. Please stay safe and calm.Maybe one day that crooked old man will come to his senses and stop this madness once and for all.

Best Wishes,

Tom

Caring Courage

My courage is made from-

The toughness of a spear,

The tears of hurt hearts,

The independence of a single flower,

The joy of the sun

And the veins of a bull.

I found it-

running to safety,

imprisoned in an alleyway,

hiding with the clouds,

and whispering escape plans.

This courage-

can climb Mount Everest,

shatter a window revealing a ray of confidence,

build a time machine,

till its life closes.

If I lost this courage-

Even that single flower would close forever.

the ship of excitment

The swaying of the silver sails sprinkle a magical dust of happiness across the dozing night sky. Cabins cheerfully spinning and singing to the beautiful new moon laughing up ahead. Shooting stars bounce on the ocean like a trampoline. Two oars salsa to the oceans’ music. Wishing, wishing for a ship of excitment

The `thing’

End of Chapter 1:

“Why are you running so fast?” I ask curiously

“Because I saw it the-the Duckamander!” she pants painfully

“No way!”

Chapter 2:

We peer carefully through the calm curtains for a minute right before I ask “You didn’t actually did you?” Outside, I notice that the sun is not to be seen,a hurricane’s a coming. Before she replies I already know whats she is going to say. I knew it. The Duckamander.

Soon after the horizon shut down,I find myself walking gloomily behind Melodie(the mischievous girl’s name).Yes I know I should’ve stayed in my room watching Netflix with crisps by my side.I know I should’ve kept my fan on so she wouldn’t notice me.For all I can say Melodie is the most rude, the most arrogant and meanest girl I’ve met in my life!I mean how can a girl be so mean?A gruesome wind lifts us off the dusty old floor, pulling us down the corridor.Distant sun turns into distant thunder as lightning dances across the sky.Melodie pauses.

We walk by the Limiana Library,Sandy’s Starbucks Shop and the local CD shop. They’re all closing up as the hurricane is on the tip of its toes. The pier almost looks lifeless without a single soul to be seen.

Melodie stood as frozen as an icicle.I follow her path as I gaze in fear and that’s when we see it.One big trail of footprints with needle point claws digging deep into the sulking sand. They all lead up to Sandy’s starbucks.I drag Melodie’s jumper as I trudge into the shop.Mindlessly,we crouch into the unknown not knowing what sits fearlessly.

We enter the yummy cold coffee shop and Melodie notices that one of the coffee machines were still on.Outside lightning occurred as the rain poured down on guests indifferent to their thoughts.Cautious of every step, we amble through the closed cafe.Scared, we just catch a glimpse of 2 beady eyes sprinting across the room.It pauses. It snarls its way back.Am i hallucinating?

Prologue and Chapter 1

Prologue

You’ve probably been to Delightful-on-dreams.In Summer, you probably went to the hot springs,or munched marvellously on a melting minty double-scoop ice cream. When you arrived, there would have been Whirlwind Waterpark booming with joy and laughter, the Mr Frost ice cream truck humming happily to fun tunes, and the original Malinah restaurant with famous Ratatouille as your chef. You probably got taken to the Arzak aquarium.Thats the kind of place you’d think you were in…..until the slumber fades.

But in winter, you probably felt the cold shiver of fear through your veins as the gust of a harsh wind flew.Try being here when the sand is smothered in snow and your beach umbrella is flying away.Or when the sea is the latest skating rink for bears.Even locals keep their distance from the sea. Some citizens say to have sighted a ferocious, fearless, frightening, freaky sea monster that will stay stuck in your head for years.

Chapter 1

My name is Maya Windelfinger and I work at the Malainah restaurant. Most people call me May-May.I am the new waitress.I take people’s orders and give them their delicious food.I also flip the chairs onto the tables at the end of the day.Someone once told me that it must be a dreadful job but I don’t mind it at all.I’ve got a lovely bedroom under the restaurant with a nice and cosy king size bed.I’m lonely sometimes but never through April to August.I love being a waitress because all the chefs, waiters and other waitresses are really kind to me.

A young girl aggressively bangs on the window screaming “He’s coming.Let me in,quickly!”

I fix her a confused look.Without thinking, I open the door and she sprints into the main hall as fast as a cheetah. In that second she whispers “Where’s your safest place?”

Now before my story resumes, there is one mysterious myth I have to tell you.It happened so long ago that its cast ancient or history.Local folklore states of a species of fish and Anatidae.Suspiciously,it only came out on winter nights. It left a trail of cold blood all along the streets with a horrible stench suffocating many. They say that when the sun sets it takes a big groan ready for dinner. When victims heard this, they would lock all doors and run upstairs with fear.

Some say that it roamed the streets to find a healer for its pain. Some say it groaned due to starvation. Some say it longed for a midnight feast with its fearless family.I personally have never seen this utterly disgusting beast before but a lot of my family has seen or heard it.

“Why are you running so fast?” I ask curiously.

“Because I saw it.The-the Duckamander!” she pants painfully.
