Chapter – 2

The man stared up at Mary, his eyes a deep hazel brown colour.“ What are you doing here Mary!” said Mrs Smith puzzled,“Calm down Jane!” said the man as he introduced himself, “I’m James” He then stood up. Mary shivered from the  coldness and from fright, she then ran up to the top of the staircase, Mrs Smith’s words are still  in her head. Is she a nuisance?  She wants to get rid of her? What was getting rid of her supposed to mean for Mary? To Mary’s surprise,he greeted Mary with a warm smile “Leave at once Mary!” Shouted Mrs Smith. Mary rushed up the stairs and sat on her bed, her head still spinning at the thought of Mrs Smith lying to everyone.

Mrs Smith soon came chasing after Mary “ I’m sorry, I lied to you Mary,” she said in a sorrowful tone as she approached Mary’s room and opened her closet door pulling out the box of folded clothes. Then she rummaged through the box and picked up a dusty old picture whilst blowing the  dust off it. She went over to Mary’s bed, pulled out another box and sat on the bed. “ Come sit here, Mary,” she said. Mary approached Mrs Smith, “ Why did you even lie to me, what was the reason?” she shouted at Mrs Smith but only tears fell from her eyes. “I used to have a beautiful daughter and a wonderful baby boy. They were the joy of my life when I had them. Their names were Joseph, Lindia. They Were both so young they didn’t deserve what faith had brought to them,” said Mrs Smith, her tears of sorrow soon turning to anger. “There was an air raid here and they were crushed to death by the walls of our old house collapsing the only things left of them are the happy memories in my heart I don’t want my husband to go to war as he is my only family alive please may we keep this between the two of us Mary,” Said Mrs Smith wiping her tears. Mary had hundreds of questions still wandering around her head. Was hiding him really her only option? How long had he been down there? She still had not explained what getting rid of her was?

Mary soon began to visit James nightly, bring down food and other supplies down to him. They soon began to bond a slight friendship and Mary always took scraps of her writing to take to him along with the occasional  book she  signed out from the public library in the nearby town. She enjoyed reading to James as he always listened  to her  reading books.

One night Mary saw Mrs Smith leaving the house with a candle and flowers

She decided to follow her and grabbed her coat. Where was she going? Is she seeing someone else?  Flowers but who for ?  She tiptoed after her with a dim lantern slowly but carefully making her way through the forest. She heard Mrs Smith crying at the remains of a fallen house Mary wondered if this was her old house but before she could move Mrs Smith turned around. “Who is there?”  shouted Mrs Smith as she rose off the ground. “Come out whoever you are,”  she said, wiping her tears. Mary revealed herself, “ What are you doing here?” Mrs Smith said as she interrogated Mary “I just wanted to see where you were going?” said Mary as she lowered her head. “ This was the place, they both died here and I couldn’t save them, it’s my fault”  cried Mrs smith. Mary was silent and hugged Mrs Smith as she mourned the death of her children.

The tree giant

The Tree giant

The tree giant is a type of giant that is heading towards extinction.

Would you be able to recognize a male tree giant if you ever met one? They share some physical similarities  with trees as their skin is tough like the bark of a tree and their feet are shaped like tree stumps. Like most giants, they normally have thick slender bodies covered in vines and Ivy, but some males found in the wild have been seen with short and stubby bodies. The main feature of male tree giants is the daisy at the core of its body which represents its heart.

On the other hand, female tree giants  are shorter than males and are covered in moss. Females have pouches in their stomachs to carry young and are coated in mushrooms.  Most females disguise themselves as oak trees and are the most endangered. They have teeth that grind through any type of material.

Tree giants usually live in dense forests without any human civilization so they are not disturbed. They are very shy giants. During the daytime they hide in caves or disguise themselves as trees. Tree giants are easy to identify as they  make a high pitch screech when they are walking. However if they do see you they will start to run away and hide.

Tree giants have specific diets they stick to for most of their lives. They thrive on all the following: lavender, mushrooms, all types of vegetables and fruits, hedgerow and succulent leaves.  Tree giants are quite fond of nuts and sugary items they find in the wild.

The best feature of tree giants is that they can purify land and bring dead plants and land back to life. That is why they are currently being taken away and used illegally, some whilst disguising as trees are cut down by humans that is why they are struggling  in numbers. This has led the sighting of tree giants to be a rare occurrence.

Where lies are endless

Chapter – 4

The next day it rained. Gray clouds flooded the skies; rain pounded the fields flat; rain filled the alleys, roads and pathways through the valleys. It was as if the sky would never stop pouring out rain. Mary stood at her bedroom window looking out into the rain and saw the three women approaching once again. She felt as if she had to stop them. But Mary couldn’t wait anymore so she quietly put her raincoat on and snuck out the door. Outside, the rain had soaked Mary to the skin, but she still desperately searched for the women. She desperately searched the nearby village, but they had disappeared.

She stopped at Mrs Hill’s house to ask about the 3 women. Mrs Hill always knew everything going on in the area.  Mrs Smith called her a tittle-tattle and said she always rambled on about other people but she was Mary’s last resort to find the women. Funnily enough, Mrs Hill was standing at her bedroom window watching. “ Don’t come in ere, witch ya wet boots on it’ll ruin me new carpet.”She shouted angered, by the thought of her newly installed carpet being ruined. “ Sorry Mrs Hill but have you seen 3 women passing towards my home these past few days?” Mary said politely, Mrs Hill eyed the young girl. “No,” she said, slamming the door shut in Mary’s face.

Mary stood under the oak tree beside her school yard. She could hear the wind howling and rain dripping and this made her shiver. As she was about to leave she remembered, like an answer to an English question, it came to her. Maybe they had returned to Mrs Smith’s home? After all, she had been searching the village, not the house. Maybe they saw her leave and went back? Mr Smithhad just woken up when she left so they must have seen him if they were there. She pickled her feet up and made her way home.

All this happened 20 years ago. The three women had been the family of the smiths.  I found them all chatting in Mr Smith’s room. They introduced themselves as Mr and Mrs Smith’s mothers and their sister. Sadly Mr Smith would never be able to visit the rest of his family  because  somebody discovered that Mr Smith was alive

and was hiding. He died in 1945 as he was sent to the rag ends of the war in France and sadly passed away. Mary was sent back to her mother and father in 1946 and was happily married by 1955 and had a daughter in 1960, and named her aberline. One summer’s day, Mrs Smith sent her a letter telling her that she had been released from jail. The whole journey living in the valleys is now just a happy memory and the bond between Mary and the smiths was a bond made of chaos.

Were lies are endless – Chapter 3

Winter soon faded and Mary had gotten used to life with Mrs Smith. The valleys were now filled with gorgeous daisies but she still missed the bustling streets of London with endless traffic and dirt covered buildings that towered overhead. Unlike London, the valley was filled with lime green grass  shooting upward with splashes of colour: The scarlet roses flowering, Hibiscus bushes with beautiful pink leaves and blue Foxgloves swayed in the wind.  Mary felt a sensation of warmth she had never felt before as she ran through the valley.

After school, Mary would always play with James but she preferred to call him Mr Smith and thought of him as a father since she never got to see her dad as he died when her mother was 8 months pregnant. Sometimes they would go out in the back garden together and play hopscotch; she also enjoyed playing with Mrs Smith as she had gotten kinder towards her. James and Mary would stargaze and watch the moon from Mary’s bedroom window. Mary knew what the two thought of her and how  they pretended as if she was their deceased daughter. But Mary was worried, what would happen if Mr Smith was discovered? Would he have to go to war with all the other men? If he did have to go to war would he ever come back? Mary dismissed her feelings and went to bed.

The sun had risen and Mary decided to play outside with Mr Smith as it was Saturday then she grabbed a slim piece of chalk and hurried out. When she made it to the garden she saw Mr Smith waiting for her. They played for hours but Mary couldn’t help but feel as if they were being watched. Once they had gotten tired she went back to her room and looked out the window then saw both Mr and Mrs Smith together outside. She looked around and saw a woman next to their fence watching them. She rushed down the stairs and bashed the kitchen door open.  “Someones there!” she shouted catching her breath as the woman behind the fence ran away. They both burst out laughing “There’s none there silly,” Mrs Smith jokingly said, Mary gave up on convincing the two and went back to her room seeing 3 women approaching their fence, tears, tears rolling down their faces.

Where lies are endless

Where lies are endless

Mary Jane loved her home and never thought she had to leave her family and friends . She stared out of the bedroom window , looking at the lifeless fields stretching hundreds of miles ahead and holding back tears. She missed being with her friends Nancy,Linda and Patricia back at the bustling city of London but now they had all been separated. Mary slept in a  small room with a metal bed that had a tough mattress and a crate as a night stand. The room was damp and had an unusual smell  and in the little wooden closet there was a box of neatly folded clothes that seemed to belong to someone else and Mary figured someone used to sleep in her new room. Mary was no fool and decided to not bring up the box in conversation with Mrs Smith as there were pictures of her with some children and a man all over the house.

She had already been enrolled in a school. On her first day of school she met her teacher, a nice enough man called Mr Jhonson. He discovered Mary could read and write quite well and understood books made for years older than her. Mary already knew most of the lesson being taught by Mrs Johnson so she sat at the back of the classroom with her copy book and scratch pen. She normally got bored in classes so at the end of the day she shot out the school as soon as the bell rang .

As weeks passed Mary started to form a routine. Her week days were filled with boredom, scraping down the alphabet , and then returning to her new home to help Mrs Smith. She was given many jobs by Mrs Smith before Mary arrived; she had dug up her garden and grew many vegetables. He was told to lock the hens up in their coop before dinner. She also had to feed the cow who was kept in a small shed for fattening. As soon as spring had arrived the lifeless valleys were now filled with brightly coloured flowers  and lime green grass.

Whilst Mary was hopping up the stairs after having dinner, Mrs Smith came out with an enormous plate of food and put it down on a crate near the stairs then approached the stairs.  Mary then slowly stepped toward her room and sat on her bed and quickly closed the door. Mrs Smith then went back down the stairs then went to the little hook  on the stairs then the first 4 steps opened up to reveal a small opening. She grabbed the plate then headed down. Mary then heard a door slam shut she quickly got up and opened the door tiptoed down the stairs and pulled the hook and snuck down.

When she touched the door down the staircase slightly opened and Mrs Smith was sat on a bed with a man whilst he ate the plate of  food whilst chatting to each other Mrs

Evacuee letter

Dear Ma,

Thanks for the sandwich I ate it during the ride to Ribchester. The train was right packed with children and I almost lost me tag on the way. It was proper cold on the train. After what felt like centuries, I arrived at Ribchester it aint nothing like home its a huge valley with not many other houses.

At last we got there, there were a whole crowd of women choosing which child they wanted. It were like the market on a Sunday morning. I got chosen as the one of the very last children.

When I did get chosen I was taken by Mrs Smith who took me to her house south of Ribchester  which is a cottage in the valley next to a village.  She got a well in er garden . There’s a huge handle turn and a bucket comes up. First thing Mrs Smith Smith did was tell me to take a wash in er tub outside. It was right cold outside. She didn’t back let me The house till i were scrubbed clean.  She talks funny but we get along right well.

My room in the attic is what she told me she never told me I was sharing a room with her daughter called Nancy she asked me if I was the girl who were sharing her room with and I said yes. Nancy’s right nice and is 1 month older than me. Mrs Smith told me that her husband was off in the war fighting like dad. She also has chickens in her garden. She assigned me to make sure the chickens are fed and are doing well.  She has rows of vegetables. I feed the chicken with some of the seeds.

You’d never guess but Mrs Smith has a cow called Bessie in a little fenced off area in the garden. She gives me small jobs to do. My favorite is feeding Bessie scraps like cauliflower leaves and broccoli stalks. One of my other jobs is to lock up the chicken coop so they can not  be eaten by foxes. I also have to collect the hens eggs so in the morning she gives me and Nancy a fresh boiled egg.

The village next to the cottage is called Little Wood. I walk there often. There are only around 20 houses in Little Wood. The village is filled with green grass and there are apple trees that have a load of apples. Whenever I go there I always take one for myself and one for Nancy at home.

Mrs Smith enrolled me in a school called Little Wood primary School. It is a 5 minute walk from me cottage. The class room is packed with other children. The class does have an air raid shelter but it is very small and could not fit the whole class but I do carry a gas mask with me. In the class it’s right cold. Our routine is to first sing save the King then pray for the country. I’m trying right hard with my handwriting and numbers.

Sometimes when it’s sunny we go out and sit and eat our lunch on the grass and normally Mrs Smith sends me with a dripping sandwich and an orange wrapped up in my school bag. Sometimes she sends me on my way with a  thermostat of soup as a treat. The boys and girls here are all polite and nice to me. We all play hopscotch together. When it’s raining we sit in the classroom which is right uncomfortable .

I do hope you are doing well at home Ma. I do pray for you and da every night. I hope Da is doing well and will come back unharmed from the war. I will always keep you and Da in my heart. I will hopefully come back home soon. Please write back to me soon

Your loving daughter- Mary

My Joy

My Joy is made of –

Endless hours playing with the cats,

The joy of chatting with my family and friends,

The dark sorrowful clouds finally disappearing the glistening sun emerging,

The joy of finally seeing Biscuit and  Bilal.

I Found Joy-

Caged by sorrowful thoughts,

Hiding away in the depths of my nightmare,

Sitting with the cats lounging on the sofa,

Dancing on the hill picking dandelions happily.

My Joy can-

Wipe away the tears of a weeping child,

Bring life to even the deadest flowers,

Bring joy even too the most broken souls,

Break apart hearts of stone.

If I lost my joy-

All the gorgeous summer flowers would die out along with the rest of the earth ,slowly disappearing and crumbling away…

The Ship Of Light

On the ship of light, beams of vibrant bright sunlight flashed the old deck glistening as the sun rose. The rays of sunlight brightened the sorrowful sea of darkness as the wind howled violently. The sails of the ship were as white as snow. Waves gently crashed on the sides of the ship as it gracefully glided across the sorrowful sea. Clouds dangled over the ship in the light of day as the ship majestically as the sun set.

DEADLY DRAGON ON THE LOSE!

Leo Matthew – news correspondent for mythical creatures Archie Davis- dragonlogist

An amazing discovery has happened in Bolton. Late last night around twilight a dragon was spotted in the back garden of Mia king and her husband’s Arnell kings home. Their son Liam spotted this dragon in their back garden, the dragon panicked and ran away. Early this morning a scale was found from the dragon along with wreckage and giant footprints !

I've found out that the footprints left lead to a forest. The dragon is still alive and it is a popular rumor that it lives in the giant forest. I've also found the first eye witness of the amazing dragon this is what the eye witness has to say’’I couldn't believe it, a green scaly dragon next to my window ‘’ said Liam 11, who saw this amazing creature first the parents of Liam hs father Arnell King and mother Mia King. There was also a scale of the beautiful dragon left. It's now being tested in a lab and scientists are now trying to bring dragons back from the piece of evidence they now have to prove dragons are real. Which also means other mythical creatures could have roamed the earth.

Local dragonologist Archie Davis says ‘’ i couldn't believe it’’. The local council has advised people not to go searching for the dragon but to report sightings of the dragon to them. It's also been advised to stay still whilst in contact with the dragon and to stay safe and don't try attacking the dragon its passive before provoked. Stay safe!

Moonlight unicorn

The moonlight unicorn, popular belief to be extinct despite signs of life on the moonlight unicorn.  The moonlight unicorn that is a flying horse is very rare. It has been spotted soaring through the sky and clouds on full moons; unusually the moonlight unicorn doesn’t live on the moon despite the minority of people believing it does. This unicorn is in fact, very lonely. Unlike its relatives the  sun and sunlight unicorns which it hates.

The moonlight unicorn, which lives on cliffs and high mountains, most moonlight unicorns live near waterfalls. However these cliffs and mountains  need to be a specific size for this magical unicorn to reach the stars.  They need this waterfall and high cliffs to help them rear here young and protect themselves from hunters and predators.  Moonlight unicorns live away from the sun so they don’t make contact with it and do not interfere with the sunlight unicorns. They love to fly across the clouds with air planes with humans in them.  You can see them at moonlit pools near waterfalls. Lots of people say you can hear them breathing whilst close to them. Many sleep under trees or caves they try to hide from unicorn hunters whilst finding places to live. However, since these beautiful creatures have gone into hiding not many have been seen for some time the population growth of these unicorns have been soaring because of the habitats that hunters cannot reach.

Could you have recognised this unicorn Once you’ve seen it ?  Like most rare unicorns they have their own characteristic long mane, long tails and huge powerful wings. The unicorn’s main feature is its horn and its magical wings. The moonlight unicorn  has blue or yellow eyes which change from white whilst being under 10 its wings also change like the eyes.  Their fur is white like snow, their horns are a beautiful gold colour with some tints of different colours, and their hooves are unusually white. Its hooves can change colours but that is very rare amongst these unicorns. Some unicorns can have different coloured manes, fur and tails depending on their habitat the common moonlight unicorn has white main, fur and tail but some rare moonlight unicorns have black or blue characteristics including there mains, tails, wings and fur.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 The moonlight unicorn, interestingly enough, gets some nutrition from the stars every once in a while. They put their majestic, beautiful  golden horns up to the stars and draw some food from the stars. That’s also why they have to lie somewhere that is quite large in size. They’re especially fond of cloud berries from cloud trees but if they do eat too many they’ve got the chance of turning bright blue ! They drink from different water sources like waterfalls, also why lots of moonlight unicorns live nearby to waterfalls, some drink by moonlit ponds, they can also be found near areas of moonlit ponds. According to popular belief, if you get close enough to them you can hear them breathing.thy can also eat mushrooms and other foods found from mountains and also giant cliffs.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                             These unicorns are shy but aggressive and are passive until provoked or hurt. Surprisingly these moonlight unicorns are quite shy but can turn aggressive in under 1 minute. They are quite friendly on the other and so if you do pass by one do not get scared. In fact they are one of the most friendly unicorns out there to humans. They sometimes are aggressive over unicorns but with the sunlight unicorns  they are very protective of themselves their, young ,their food and their home’s. Moonlight unicorns love to play with humans and other animals are also very playful which results in loving humans. If you sit down and close your eyes the moonlight unicorn might think you’re dead! The moonlight unicorn might put leaves all over you if you do meet one in your lifetime, do not jump on its back and get on it and try riding it. The moonlight unicorn is not tamed.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          Many people believed that the moonlight unicorn grants magical wishes hence why it’s so rare.  If you know the location of a moonlight unicorn best to keep it a secret and make sure to tell trustworthy people only. Their favourite food is any type of berries. If they eat it straight out of your hands  well done you’ve gained one’s trust. Let’s try to keep these amazing creatures alive for future generations.
