Spiderfly

The Spiderfly is one of the most  fascinating insects found in the UK. It was discovered by a determined entomologist, Dr Whistlebigger who lives in the North-West part of England. Dr Whistlebigger has been in entomology studies, for 13 years now, and has helped us to discover some of England’s most amazing creatures. The Spiderfly is his 45th discovery of the year, and he is aiming to get to 100 by December.

Appearance:

Dr Whistlebigger, was mostly intrigued by the Spiderfly’s sunset orange, translucent wings, and its unique patterns on each of them. This interesting insect’s most memorising feature, is that in the sunlight it’s wings reflect rays of light, and shows the translucency of the wings. It has a fantastic variety of eye colours, and the rarest one, is most likely vermillion, however some extremely common ones are sapphire blue, and emerald green. The Spiderfly has no scales, and has a furry, long body and when touched, it feels like silk on your fingertips.

Diet and Habitat:

A Spiderfly usually feeds on insects smaller than itself, such as flies, spiders, worms, and ladybugs. However some have been sighted pushing itself, and attempting to find other prey, such as toads, fish, slugs and snails. In England, the Spiderfly’s founding area, this insect’s particular type of prey, is easy to find and can sometimes be a little bit more challenging to catch. The habitat of a Spiderfly, is usually somewhere with a decent amount of rain and run, easy ways to find prey, and somewhere where grass is regularly damp or dry.

TWE – Chapter 4

“Who are you? What’s going on?” asked Valerie without even turning.

“I could ask you the same question Sugar Plum,” replied a croaky voice. The voice sounded fragile and old. Possibly an old woman, or a witch. “What do you want from me?”.

“I- I was sent here! By the little blue door, with a white frame. The one in The Wonder Emporium!” explained Valerie.

“What door? I don’t see any door apart from that red one, and my front door,” the voice answered. “And I’m feeling hungry for a snack!”.

Valerie quickly turned away, and she knew she had to make a run for it. So she did. She ran. Away from the fireplace, to the front door, she grabbed her coat, opened the door, ran out and ran up the snowy hill, and back to where the door was. She had forgot one little, tiny thing. It was gone. The door had vanished when she got there.

The woman’s cackle grew louder, which meant she was getting closer.

“Please just let me go! I just want to go home. I mean you no harm!” Valerie exclaimed. The door suddenly appeared with a giant flash of golden glitter. The glitter was enough the distract the witch, while Valerie opened the door went through and locked it as if all of this had never even happened.

Soon enough, Valerie was back in the corridor of the shop, and was safe. She had a look around, and went to the red velvet curtain, went through and closed it. Valerie found the book again on the table, and there was one more thing she knew she had to do before she went home. She opened the book, and flipped through each page rapidly, until she finally found her entry. She tore the page out with ease, crumpled it up and put it into her coat pocket. As she left the shop, she heard the jingle of the bell from the outside, as the slowly closed itself.

Valerie smiled as she walked home, knowing this was all just her imagination, or so she thought. As she reached her hand into her right coat pocket, she felt the crumpled paper, of her diary entry touching her fingertips.

TWE – Chapter 3

Valerie tried opening the book once again,  but it was as if the pages themselves had been glued together. She glanced around the shop, and not a soul was in sight. She slowly crept towards the velvet curtain, and quickly slipped behind it. She looked ahead to see a long corridor, and to her left the first thing she noticed, was a pastel blue door with a snowy white frame. The same one, she had written about in her diary entry. The fancy golden handle, gave a shiver as the cold metal touched her fingertips. Still, Valerie twisted the handle, and pushed the door open.

All of a sudden, Valerie felt an icy breeze blown onto her pink cheeks. A bitter wind, threw bits of snow every which way, and the door slowly shut itself with a bang when it finally hit the frame. Valerie turned around to see it, but it had already vanished into thin air.

She turned back around, to see her surroundings, and in the distance she noticed a small cottage, with a faint orange glow in the windows, and a lime of smoke rising from the chimney. She looked around again, and it was the only form of shelter in sight. She soon built up the courage, and began her journey to the little cottage.

She opened the door to the small house, and a gust of warmth shot at her face, as she spotted the fireplace in the corner of the room. She quickly closed the door, and rushed over to sit by the fire. Valerie put both hands out and began rubbing them together, which door, and all of a sudden she felt an icy, thin hand slip over her shoulder.

Chapter 2 – TWE

“My name is Stefiano Silver. I am the owner of this shop. I made everything it holds. Do you like it?” Mr Stefiano asked. “Please say something.” Valerie didn’t know what to say. She lifted her bottom lip back to her top one, and tried to speak.
“Y-yes it’s amazing. Y-you really made everything in here?” she asked curiously. “Even painted that painting?”.
“Yes I did. She really is amazing,” said Mr Stefiano said, gazing up at a well detailed painting of a beautiful woman, hanging on the wall.
“Who is beautiful?” question Valerie, with her curiosity growing by the second.
“Hmm? Oh no one. Never mind,”  he said “Just remember, do not touch that book. It can be very dangerous. Especially in the wrong hands.” And with a bomb of dust, he disappeared behind a scarlet curtain next to the counter.

Valerie quickly glanced around the room, to check and make sure no one was watching. She once again picked up the book, and flipped through the pages and for a slip second, it must have felt like she had gone back in time.

June 1864:
Dear Diary, I’m not entirely sure of what I should do now. My only wish, is to live forever with my daughter Katherine. It doesn’t feel right now that Elena’s gone. It doesn’t feel normal without her. I miss her terribly.

Valerie continued to read, and soon came to the conclusion, that maybe he did live forever. She took a pen from the pen pot on the counter, and began writing a diary entry of her own. When she finished, in her neatest handwriting, she signed at the bottom. Valerie put the lid on the pen, and suddenly each word on the page, began glistening with silver sparkled. Then the boom slammed shut, and wouldn’t open again.

The Wonder Emporium – By Mica

Prologue:

There are places in our world, in which no one has ever been. The Wonder Emporium, had however always been one of them.

Even though on a crisp December morning, the colourful lights twinkled as they light the dim shadow in the window. Even though you can always smell freshly baked blueberry muffins, or sense the taste of of warm sugar donuts, filling the air. Even though sometimes, the silence inside created a suspense of worry, you had never felt before. Even though the icy atmosphere, sends a shiver down your spine.

But barley anyone had dared to enter. Not after what happened last time. No one had entered since. Not one had heard the light jingle of the little, gold bell when the door was pushed open. No one… no one up until Valerie.

Chapter 1:

Valerie had always had a curious mindset and sometimes, her curiosity got the best of her. And when this happens, in can get her into a lot of trouble.

Valerie glanced around the room, and anywhere she set her eyes, it was packed with wishes and wonders. Each shelf was filled with antiques and books, which were all blanketed with a sheet of dust. There was a small grey box, filled with green, toy soldiers and at an angle, it seemed as if they moved. She noticed three little wooden rocking chairs, with a china doll seated on the red patterned cushion. A handmade train track set, whose train drove around in circles, as it protected a leather bound book, embroidered with gold lettering, spelling out

“The Book Of Wonders”

As she reached out her hand to pick it up, she heard a rustling noise behind her.

“Careful with that!” said a man’s voice. It sounded tired and rough. “That book is very powerful, and if it gets into the wrong hands, very bad and dangerous things can happen.” She placed the book back down on the table, and slowly backed away, as she watched the train circling it again.

If I Were A Door

If I were a lilac door,
I would give you
the strength of a solider in the eye of an endless storm,
the warmth of a fire on a crisp November morning,
and the heart filled with a never ending love.

If I were a scarlet door,
I would show you
the beginning of an angering rage,
the story of a broken soul,
and the stairs to the unforgiving ending.

If I were an emerald door,
I would feed you
with envy and jealousy,
with questions longing for answers,
and sour green grapes.

If I were a daffodil door,
I would sing you
the buzz of the bees,
sweet melodies of sunshine,
and the joyful tunes, of the butterscotch sunrise.

If I were a cyan door,
I would take you,
to a endless field of bluebells,
to a battle of of an arctic flame,
and to the depths of the darkest oceans.

If I was a were a pink door,
I would lure you,
to the blossoming willow tree,
to a lake of peaceful flamingos,
to the pink moon’s eye.

The Air-Ship Terror

Prologue :

You may have been in an air-ship, when the sky was full of stars. It was a dark, quiet night. All of a sudden, thunder rumbles in your ears, and lightening strikes the ground, not so far below you, with a bang.

You reach out your hand, to the cold steering wheel, and as the ice cold metal touches your fingertips, you feel a shiver running down your spine. The breeze, as it gently drifts onto your face, and runs through your hair, stings your pink cheeks.

Remember the time your grandfather showed you the air-ship for the first time? When he taught you how to fly it and control it? How you looked down wt the small town of Bretsville. How you felt that refreshing breeze blowing onto your face for the first time. Oh how he cared for you and Grandma.

I bet you enjoyed your time with him while it lasted. Remember when Grandma gave you a box full of his things? When she told you about the letter inside? The letter that never got sent? You need to find it. Grandpa began a mission. A mission he never finished. A mission, you need to finish.

Chapter 1 :

Olivia had always wanted to travel the world, and to be an explorer. She quickly got out of the taxi, almost forgetting to pay the driver after grabbing her bags and closing the door. Olivia sprinted through the airport, looking for her flight number. She gave the woman at the front her bags, and ticket and finally boarded the plane, toughly 3 minutes early.

Tyler on the other hand, scrambled around the airport, his bags falling from his shoulders, his lunch falling out of his backpack and splatting all over the floor. He sighed, then sighted his flight number and made his way to the boarding station. He handed over his suitcase, snd kept hold tight oh his backpack. He gave in his ticket snd made it on the ship, right on time.

Little did they both know, that together they were about experience the adventure of a lifetime. Olivia made her way down to the storage room, and put her giant rucksack on a shelf, after taking out her lunch bag which included: a cheese and mayo sandwich, Sour Cream and Onion Pringles, and a Freddo chocolate bar. Tyler went into a room on the ship, which had a bunk bed, two sets of drawers and a sofa. He began shoving his creased clothes into one of the dressers, opposite the bottom bunk. Olivia walked into the room, gave an awkward smile and sat down on the bottom bed.

“Do you mind if I sleep there?” Tyler asked trying not to sound rude. “I prefer the bottom that’s all.”

“Oh, uh it’s fine..” Olivia replied. She took her backpack, which she had placed on the bed, next to her and began climbing the ladder to the top. The day had soon become night, and tomorrow the adventure would really begin.

Where I Get My Ideas

Blue waterfalls,
Glistening streams.
A pixie calls,
It’s like a dream.

Rolling hills,
Pink puffy flowers.
I get chills,
We lay there for hours.

Golden glory,
Shining down.
It tells a story,
It yields a crown.
