EVACUEE LETTER

1st September 1939

Kent

NR33 9NU

Dear Mum,

Thank you for the hot food you gave me for the journey. It was very nice and lasted the whole time. After what felt like hours, we arrived in Kent. Kent is a lot more greener than home, much more quiet too. Once we arrived, we were taken to a school. When we arrived at the school, we were made to stand in a line whilst lots of strange people came in. The tag on my coat was very annoying and the gas mask was tight around my neck. Eventually, a nice looking lady came and took me. I felt scared.

We made our way outside and she told me to get in her car. It was quite a posh car. She said her name was Mrs White. There was me and another boy with her. It wasn’t a super long journey to the house, about twenty minutes. Her house is very big, definitely bigger than our house, with a vegetable patch in the front garden. When we got inside, she let us explore and claim our bedrooms. Luckily, I got the biggest one. The walls were white and yellow, two of them have floral patterns. There was a chandelier hanging off the ceiling lighting up the whole room. The bed has lots of soft pillows and a foam mattress.

The next day Mrs White sent me to my new school. The school is big and has lots of classrooms. We have to go to the hall everyday, which is very boring. Also, we have to carry our gas masks everywhere just in case the war comes over here.

I miss you and dad and everyone in the family. Also , there are not as many shops here and the hot chocolate isn’t as nice as at home. I definitely miss your cooking as well. There are not as much buses or trains here so I have to walk everywhere which is very tyering . I hope everyone at home is doing well. Please don’t worry about me, I know I will be fine.

From Thea.

MY ANGER

My anger is made from,

The red ink of a broken whiteboard pen,

The fire alarms warning sign,

The alarm clocks racket of a noise,

The hammers devastating destruction,

And the red wings of the parrot.

I found it-

Captured in a secure cage,

Crumpled on the edge of a colossal cliffside,

Imprisoned in the top of an ancient tree,

Lounging in someone’s brain making them rage,

Where there is usually lots of happiness and joy.

My anger can-

Destroy people’s things that they treasure,

Break apart buildings and mountains in seconds,

Make the fire burn more violently,

Turn a dog’s bark into a vicious growl,

Scare people away,

To an even more dangerous place.

If I lost this anger,

The grumpy man in the house next door,

Would possibly be a bit more happy,

But probably not much.

IMAGE POEM

The parrots wings are,

As colourfull as a shining rainbow,

Like a range of different gemstones,

In an old cave,

The night sky is,

As dark as a midnight black cat,

Like a piece of coal,

In a blazing bonfire,

A star is,

As sparkly as a pearl in a galaxy,

Like the sun shining,

On the teal blue ocean,

A cloud is,

As fluffy as a feather pillow,

Like a cuddly teddy bear,

Resting on a mountain of wool.

The Ship Of Ocean Waves

The sound of the waves,

Crashing against the rocks,

Spreads around the chocolate brown deck,

While the ship faces the tide,

The plain, white sail swooshes around,

In the winds strong breeze,

As the shimmering sun twinkles,

Making the bright, blue sea shine,

Underwater is an ancient, ghostly shipwreck,

With colorful fish surrounding it,

Nibbling on the old moss,

And swimming inside the wreck,

On the ship there is lots of chaos,

With giant waves and big tides,

The ship rocking from side to side,

But in the sky, stars shimmer,

Like fairy lights in the night.

Rainbow mask

I wore the fiery red mask and saw,

A field full of roses;

A fire blazing in the fireplace,

And a tomato resting on a plate,

I wore the orange mask and smelt,

Orange juice in a cup,

Zest from an orange,

And orange peels in a bowl,

I wore the yellow mask and tasted,

A banana smoothie in a fancy glass,

A pineapple without the skin,

And a lemon tingling my tongue,

I wore the green mask and touched,

Wet grass in a field,

Green beans on a green plate,

And an emerald shining in a cave,

I wore the blue mask and heard,

The waves of the ocean crashing against the rocks,

A blue butterfly flapping its wings,

And a blue whale swimming in the sea,

Blog Post BJS

The number 23 bus stopped with a squeak. The sinister old man staggered down Kingswood Road as the tremendous storm knocked him both ways. He slowly took off his drenched jacket and hung it on the old, oak coat hanger then lowered himself carefully onto the mahogany chair behind the table.

A Guide To Mythical Care by Thea

If you have got a baby unicorn and you don’t know what to do. You’re in luck! Read on to find out how to take care of a pet unicorn.

First, to make sure that your unicorn is comfortable, create an enclosed area that looks like a forest. It would need to be delicately decorated with moss, small posies and butterflies painted with intricate patterns on their wings.

Next, attach a wire fenced enclosure so when they need to burn off some energy they can run out and exercise. As you get used to your unicorn, add different obstacles so they don’t have to do the same challenge every day.

Then, when you feel like your unicorn is bored, let them out of their home. This will give them time to get used to their wings and you will have time to bond with each other. Some ways to bond with them would be: cuddling, showing them places where you can hide together and playing hide and seek – which is a unicorns favourite game. As they grow older, your unicorn will have to be allowed to have some more freedom, so doing this at a early age will encourage them to explore more.

Also, if you want to interact with your unicorn more, you would need to stroke them because the best feeling for them is being touched by human hands. As well as that you could always brush their mane and tail since that is a sign of trust in the unicorn world.

After that, your unicorn will have to rest but they are very fussy about beds. So before they sleep you need a bass layer of soft, maple leaves smothered with a blanket of feathers woven together. For a pillow use some old bits of clothing stuffed with sheep wool.

Later on, after they half awoken, they shall need to go into nature. If you live close to a forest that will be easy but if you live further away that will be more of a challenge. If you do live further away, go into a bushy area of your garden.

Finally, when you go to sleep, make a dent in the comfiest part of your pillow. All you have to do next is go to sleep with no worries and repeat the process tomorrow.

As you can see, having a pet unicorn isn’t as easy as it seems, but they will help you to mature and take on more responsibilities.

Unicorn Mayhem by Thea

We interrupt this programme for some breaking news! A unicorn has been sighted by a 10 year old boy, Patch ***********, near the local shooting area in Patney. The sighting was around 3:00am yesterday. It appears they were foraging for food that the gun-men might have left behind.

Patch, who lives in Jasmine house two fields away from the unicorn spotting, claimed that he was walking the dog before he left for school. He told our reporter that in the forest he saw a glimpse of pure glimmering gold and heard the sound of neighing and went to see if it was a horse in distress.

When he saw the unicorn his first thought was, what is this breed of horse? Then, he ran back into the the village and started to scream that there was a strange creature in the forest. This created a great big crowd of people including the Police, and wildlife inspectors.

When our reporter interviewed Patch today, he told us that he still feels as though his heart is in his throat crawling with anticipation but also very excited because nothing unusual normally happens around here. He also added, “this is a once in a lifetime opportunity and he was lucky to be the first person to see the unicorn.”

The Police have warned everyone to report any strange sightings or noises they here. Unicornologist, Rosie May, has told us that unicorns don’t come down into our towns, so it could mean that climate change is affecting their natural habitats. Also they could be threatened, so you need to be cautious for anymore strange sightings of glittering unicorns, bad-tempered ogres, fiery dragons, angry giants, and naughty goblins.

Stay tuned for more if you want to see what’s going to happen next.
