Chapter 3- The hospital

 

Tom had found himself in a small cottage hospital: deadly and contaminated. He saw: thick green moss growing in the creases of the traditional, Victorian windows; lifeless dead stems growing through the rotting bricks into the room and infectious, squeaking vermin scrambling recklessly around the cottage. Nothing could keep the vermin under control. Chaos!

 

Tom had been perched on the window ledge for 10 minutes- frozen with shock. Would he ever get out? He couldn’t just stay there forever, he had to get out before his body was added to one of the many piles of dead bodies. Tom’s mind travelled back to the emporium: if he had never gone in then he wouldn’t be stuck in such a life-threatening place. Suddenly he regretted everything. How could he escape?

 

Tom had finally got up, but he was quickly approached by a nurse who looked as lifeless as the dead bodies. The woman could barely keep her eyes open. How many hours had she been working for?                   She softly spoke, “What are you doing here? Sorry no visitors. If I were you I’d get out of here as quickly as I could. You’re very lucky to not be infected with this deadly virus!”

 

Tom exited the room and ran crazily down the hallway. On the left side was a door that was labelled ‘supplies’. Tom twisted the rust handle. Squeak. A window was open and it was a great opportunity for him to escape. Out he went onto the rooftop.

 

He was trembling with fear. His escape route didn’t go as he planned. He was swarmed by a huge group of ravenous rats. Tom couldn’t escape them. They had: greasy, rough fur that was uncomfortable to touch; black, beady eyes that acted like a mirror and a long pink tail. There was only one way out and that was to jump…
