Chapter 4 Out The Door. By Ava SWW
End of chapter 3
A hiss came from far away. The people nodded. A gust of wind opened the front door. All Riley could see was blackness. A long red tongue came from the blackness, then she saw a bright green head. The thing moved it slivered out of the door. It was a snake. The snake stared at her: it slithered up the spiral staircase, continued up the steep hill that Riley was standing on and headed towards Riley. Quickly Riley ran to the door but it was locked.
Chapter 4 out of the door.
Riley didn’t know what to do. How could she leave if the door was locked? The mysterious snake kept getting faster and faster. When she was worried and stressed she would look up to the sky. A large oak tree hung above her. Something gold in the oak tree caught her eyes. It looked like a key.
“I NEED to climb this tree and get that key!” she exclaimed.
Nothing worried her about climbing a tree since she knew that she was good and it and plus she spent most of her time reading in trees back in the normal world. Her older brother was the one that taught her how to climb trees. Luckily, the tree wasn’t that high and the snake was really far away so there was no way that the snake would make it over to her. She stretched her arms up to high branches, wedged her feet in between branches and got up to the top of the tree where the key was.
“Yes!” she shouted, hoping that snakes couldn’t climb trees as it was getting a little closer.
Gingerly, Riley curled her fingers around the key and picked it up. Quickly she jumped down the oak tree. As she jumped down a branch had scratched her leg. Riley looked back to see if she really wanted to leave. She didn’t know. Confused with herself, she realised that she didn’t want to leave. But she didn’t know why. This place was awful. Many things had happened to her: snakes had chased her, people had stared at her and people where chasing her! Something was just making her want to stay. Then without warning the snake was on its way down the hill. She needed to leave.
Riley placed the key in the key hole and twisted it whilst her hand shook. Unluckily, the door what stiff. As hard as she could she pulled on the door handle.
“Come on, come on, open you stupid door!” she shouted stressed.
A few tugs later she had got the door open and entered the Everything Emporium once again. She slammed the door shut leaving the awful land behind her.
“Finally I’m back.”
Feeling guilty, Riley tried to tiptoe over to the front door like a mouse.
“How was that then!” Master Gold asked whilst raising his eyebrows.
Quickly, she looked down. She didn’t know what to say since she had mixed emotions.
“Well umm it was not….. awful.” she exclaimed.
Master Gold sighed. Confused, Riley looked up at Gold not knowing if he was mad. Behind Riley was the parrot that perched on a dusty chandelier.
“How is your leg?” Gold questioned.
Riley looked down to her leg. It was gone. How could that have gone so quickly. There wasn’t even a scab. Riley was shocked. Was it magic?
Without warning, a gust on wind opened the front door.
“I think that its time you leave, come back another day you might have a better time.” Master Gold exclaimed pointing over to the door.
Slowly, Riley walked out of the front door onto the street. A lamp post lit up. She looked behind herself not wanting to leave. Only a small piece of her sole could remember what the real world looked like. Suddenly, the door slammed shut. Puzzled, the Everything Emporium disappeared like it was never there. She felt magic run through her body. “Magic is really real!” Riley shouted, jumping up and down.
Another time, she told herself whist tramping home. Another time, another time.
But she didn’t notice something. The parrot was following her. Once she got home it perched on her windowsill and looked into Riley’s bedroom. Riley ran up the stairs, dashed along the landing and into her bedroom. Quickly, she walked over to her bed and flopped onto it.
“I’ll be back tomorrow.”
