chapter four

Although she was tired, Chara carried on running. There were a few times when she almost got caught, but finally, she reached the place that the door should have been. Surprisingly, there was a massive pit where the door should have been. She thought that she could have been hallucinating, even if it was real, she could never reach it. The hole was full of amber and red flames that were glowing as bright as the sun. The door became more noticeable and she could hear the monster getting closer. She knew what she had to do.

She jumped into the pit and, amazingly, the flames didn’t hurt her. Cautiously, the monster followed her in and wasn’t as lucky. It let out a cry and burnt to ashes. Chara carried on walking, ignoring what she had seen. After walking for what seemed like hours but was actually only about five minutes, she started to get hot, sweaty and thirsty. Eventually, she found the door and flung herself through it. She slammed the door closed and decided she would never try to go in that room again.

She quietly tiptoed through the curtain when she heard a voice saying,” Do you understand why I told you to stay away from the book now?” When she calmed down she said,” You’re very talented! If you want to come back tomorrow I’ll teach you how to use the book. But for now, you need to go home, your parents will be worried about you.” Before Chara could say anything, she was back outside in the cold.

She noticed that the shop had disappeared, and wondered if it had ever even existed. She decided that she would come back the next day, to see if it was real or not. She pushed all thoughts of the shop out of her head and started walking home. What she didn’t see, was an owl with purple and cyan feathers was following her. If it hadn’t been hiding in shadows and trees, she probably would have noticed it. It settled in a tree and watched her until she went to sleep.
