The Iceflower
The Iceflower
The Iceflower’s leaves
hang with little, clear
water dew drops.
Their sky blue flowers
come to say hello in winter.
The green stem is as
shiny as an emerald.
Their golden pollen glows like stardust
and swiftly floats in the wind.
They stretch out their vines
that lean on their neighbour trees.
Their red roots,
like barbed wire,
grow in the underground mud.
When they bloom into adult flowers,
their petals turn into solid frost
and smile to say, “See you next winter”.

What a beautiful poem, Emi-Mae. You have chosen great similes and personification but my favourite part is the end. I love the idea of the frozen petals smiling as they take their leave until the following winter.
