The Woodland Unicorn

The Woodland Unicorn

Did you know that the Woodland Unicorn – which as you can probably guess lives in rambling Woodlands – is the only Unicorn in existence? These rare and rather beautiful creatures live in remote, rural woods where there is not a human in sight. Surprisingly, this animal is scared of people so dense gloomy forests are the perfect solution for the woodland Unicorn to live in. Although, some herds choose open leafy glades with few trees which again have no people in sight. Despite Unicornologists desperately searching for facts about these creatures, the information about these animals is scarce as  only a handful of people have been lucky enough to actually spot a woodland Unicorn in its natural habitat.

As you already know this Unicorn lives in woodland areas but I bet you are wondering where they sleep? Well they’re actually a little bit like moles! If you’ve guessed that they live underground you’re right! They have spectacular homes which are just not visible to the human eye. Woodland unicorn’s will dig and dig for hours on end if they have to, just so they can have large and undisturbed dwellings of which they are very proud. Strangely, Woodland Unicorns are very devoted to keeping their homes spotlessly clean with not even a spot of mud on the door mat. This is very unusual especially because unicorn’s are extremely clumsy creatures and they have a very strong chance of falling in mud and then getting it all over their floor.

Personally, I think the appearance of the Woodland Unicorn is the most startling part of the creature so I am going to try my best to describe  to you. This Unicorn has a mane the same silver as the moon and it glitters in the sunlight. It is almost as useful as the moon as well! Their mane is not just there for them to toss it about and shake when they are agitated, it actually glows in the dark as well. This isn’t the most amazing part of their body though… A Unicorn’s  horn is dazzling. nearly seven inches tall it definitely stands out from the rest of the Unicorn family! A Unicorn horn is made of ivory, which is why they always keep themselves hidden from people. It is as smooth as glass, and it’s intricately carved into a curling spiral of incredible architecture. Last but definitely not least is the unicorn’s fur. It is as soft and light as the clouds and a midnight blue colour which easily blends into the forest.

A Woodland Unicorns diet is not different from any other woodland creatures diet. They mainly live off grass, leaves and berries. On the other hand a Woodland Unicorn loves any human scraps (if they can find them) as long as there is no meat. Curiously, there is the one thing that a woodland Unicorn will never eat under any circumstances, and that is dandelion leaves. It is strange for two reasons: the first reason is because Woodland Unicorns are herbivores so they shouldn’t  be fussy with the plants they eat. The second reason is unicorns love grass. It is their favourite food and dandelions are very similar to grass. This strange fact is still being studied by Unicornologists.

A Woodland Unicorn’s behaviour can be extremely surprising to someone who isn’t used to it. Their behaviour can go from laughing to crying very quickly. There are some theories for this unusual way to behave but no one is sure why this happens. Some people believe that woodland unicorns do this because they are so scared of animals and humans and, for example, if someone walked towards a Woodland Unicorn they would start crying and then if they turn to walk away, the unicorns would start laughing. Strangely, most unicornoligists believe that Woodlands Unicorn’s behaviour is controlled by their horn. They believe that the Woodlands Unicorn’s breath taking horn can change this creatures emotions with a click of a finger. I hope you now can see how magical these Unicorns are and really help us to keep them safe.
