Sharkamander continued
Five days later and we are back in the office room. we sit patiently enjoying some Custard Creams, the retired employees favourite biscuits. Outside, the storm returned but with misty fog that’s smothering the whole town. Inside, we are laying down on a sofa near the fireplace, listening to the cracks. However, the former employee knows where it lives.
It turns out that he’s been outside in the freezing cold for hours, going up and down the pier. he claims to of seen footprints that looked like the sharkamanders, also like the ones we saw last week.
I lock up Gumdrops Galore and make sure that all the windows are closed, and the light switches are off before we set off. Whilst wearing my puffa jacket, the mist was swirling across the promenade. We follow the curve on the way to the beach until we reach reach the cliffs. ; since it’s very dangerous to go further. We carefully make our way to the beach, with the mist covering everywhere.
I couldn’t believe him when he said he saw the footprints, but they were very clear. There are five sets of prints, two leading back into the dark mouth of the ocean, the others are leading into the town. Whilst pressing on a flashlight, I said ” Come on let’s follow the other footprints” . We both agree and set off.
When they reach the end of the footprints they end up in an abandoned circus. My heart thuds as we go further inside. Just as i’m hoping, that there’s nothing inside the old employee finds a nest in a little alcove with a glowing, grey egg. The Sharkamander has an egg.
in that moment, I feel a stab of guilt, whilst being worried another ones coming soon. “We shouldn’t be here” trembled my voice, whilst scattering my feet back to the beach. But the entrance is covered with darkness. With the small flashlight we carried, we saw small movements with noises like the Sharkamander. The flashlight starts working more. There it is the Sharkamander in a pouncing position.
