Evacuee letter

Dear Mum,

Thank you for the bag of fruits I ate on the train. They gave us gas masks just incase they decided to bomb the countryside. Don’t worry about me mum, I have a lot of things to keep me safe. I’m sure that I’ll be fine.

After what seemed like ages we arrived at the village. After we got there it was very late at night. The streets were pitch black so we couldn’t see well. The village was also dead quiet since there was no one around us.

Once I had arrived I was sent to live with a family. The family lived in a small village. They took me in happily and they seemed so excited to have me stay for quite a while. The first person I met there was a woman. She seemed like a nice woman. She welcomed me to their house and invited me inside the cottage.

Once we entered the cottage it was very cozy and warm. The cottage was in a small village called Gatwick, Yorkshire I was glad that the cottage was warm since it was extremely cold outside. I also wanted to thank you for sending an enormous warm puffy jacket with me. It kept me right warm. The family lived in a little cottage in a small village.

The woman led me upstairs and I followed her. Once we got upstairs I found 2 other children standing there. They were both girls and looked to be around the age of 12-14 years old. The woman told me that her name was Sophia. Then Sophia  told me that the 2 children in front of me were her daughters. I smiled and waved at them and did the same back. I also found out that I would be sharing a room with the 2 girls.

The family I’m living with right now enrolled me into a new school. The new school I’m going to is called King James’s. The school I go to is close near the cottage so if theres a bomb then I can go home quickly and I’ll also be safe. I love my school. It’s really enjoyable. I really like break time since I get to go to the school’s garden and sit down on the bench and read my favorite fantasy books.

I hope you and dad are alright and safe. I really want this war to end already so I can come back home. I missed when I used to play out in the rain and you and dad would scold me for getting sick afterwards. Even though I like the family I’m living with right now I still feel miserable. I still don’t feel happy because I don’t have you and dad beside me and I’m also far away from you and dad. I miss you so much I wish things could go back to normal. I hope that dad is alright and soon beats Mr ******.

Your loving daughter- Grace.
