leaving the warren

Chapter 1 – Leaving the Warren

That day, a message arrived with Jeraled who, is a robin carrier, to announce the Gorm was only a few minutes away from sun hill warren. It was not saffe. THe old warren was built many Bramblemas days ago and where to fragile the walls where to dirty to survive a Gorm attack.

So it was that the three little rabbits Padkin, Piper and plur left home. There journey to safety would take at least five days but first they would have to pass though tree army forest and cross the flury hills until they reach Rumble River of mount rushmore. The Gorm could not get in the warren, carved in the mountains by the rabbits so long so long ago. That they had passed into the stories that only the bards know. Before they left home their mum gave them a map.

the band of brave rabbits ran to the wood bridge that crossed the bright river of mount rushmore. Soon they were in the tree army forest, walking their way towards what they were hoping was safety. Tall trees overhead as they followed the map. Couiostly, Padkin took lead. Pulling at his fur coat, he trudged on as the winter winds swept snow across the landscape wherever he looked he imagined sharp weapons from the Gorm and red beady eyes of wolves.

Traiting behind padkin, and Pipre held onto baby plue paw. Silently, they tried to follow in the footsteps of their elder brother. Piper made it like a game for baby plue but soon his paw was frozen and piper could feel him shivering, as the bright sun began to fade and the shadows of tree army forest drew in, she made padkin look for stuff so they could make a shelter. Together they dragged branches and logs to a Birch tree and had to build a lean-to hut. Padkin packed the remaining space with moss until it was weather-proof. Piper lit the stump of a candle and the shelter began to feel warm.

That night, they ate dried oranges, carrot cake and nibbled on some carrots their mum had packed them. Plue was soon in a deep sleep snuggled with his older brother and sister. Carefully, Padkin tugged tree branches across the entrance of the den, wishing it would be enough to hide them from the Gorm and read eyes for the night.

As piper drifted into a sleep, her mind waved with dreams of the Gorm moving though the forest and the clinking iron armour. Would they ever find safety?
