Chapter 4
The next day, while Grace was waiting for Mrs Jones to come downstairs she glanced out the window at the flooded roads and pouring sky. The rain was so thick you could barely see the roads. Just then Mrs Jones came, “Are you ready to go?” said Mrs Jones. “Yeah,” Grace replied. Once Grace had reached school it was already pouring down. She went to her locker to put her stuff away. While she was putting her stuff inside of her locker she heard footsteps. She ignored it and thought someone was just passing by to their next class. Just when she was about to close her locker someone passed by her and they silently muttered something under their breath. “I know your secret.” Grace couldn’t quite hear what they said but it sounded like a male voice. She turned around but saw no one. She ignored it and went to her next class which was science.
While in class Grace couldn’t stop thinking about the voice. Whose voice is it? And what did they say? Suddenly, she had an idea: had they said “I know your secret?” she quietly said to herself. Grace was confused and didn’t know what secret he was talking about. Grace sat there all day anxiously thinking about it. Once it was home time she got everything from her locker and was about to go home when she got pulled into an empty classroom. Grace looked up to see a giant. He was a boy who looked to be around 180 cm or more. He had blonde hair and a cold expression on his face. She stared into his beautiful attractive hazel eyes for a while until he called out to her. “Hello?” the tall man said impatiently. She snapped out of it and replied angrily, “Why did you drag me here?” Grace was about to leave but the door was locked. Just then he unlocked the door and said, “I know your secret Grace.” Grace was stunned. How did he know her name?. “It was you wasn’t it? You were the one who walked by me.” Grace said, irritated.
“Maybe it was me,” the boy replied calmly, almost sounding as if he didn’t care. Grace was confused, why was he not showing any emotion? How did he find out?
“How did you find out about this?” Grace asked.
“I’m not telling you how,” the boy replied.
“Why not?” Grace said curiously. “Why should I tell you?” he said.
“Are you even going to tell me anything about you?” Grace questioned. “No,” he said. “Not even your name. You already know mine so it wouldn’t be fair if you didn’t tell me yours.” Grace said. “My name’s Kai, Huening Kai,” he said. “Where are you from?” Grace asked. “I was born in Hawaii but my family is Korean so I’m half Korean and half American. “How about you?” Kai asked. Grace replied with, “I was born in Thailand but had to move here because of the war.” “Cool,” Kai said.
“Can you tell me how you found out about my secret now?” Grace asked. “Yeah, on the day, I had slept in and once I got to school I was sent out of class for coming in late so the professor told me to wait outside until the class ends. While I was waiting I overheard you and some other girl with pink-blonde hair talking about someone called Mrs Jones,” Kai said.
“Oh that’s how you found out.” They both looked at the clock above them and noticed the time it was 8:00 pm.
“I have to go or else I’ll be in big trouble. I really enjoyed talking to you. Do you maybe want to be friends?” Grace asked.
“Sure, can I have your number?” Kai said. Grace gave Kai her number then they both waved goodbye and left for their houses.
Once Grace reached home, Mrs Jones was waiting for her in the living room. “Where were you?” Mrs Jones asked.
“I was at the library reading. Mr Johnson said I could stay after school for a while to read.” Grace replied as she left for her room.
“I’m making dinner now, it’ll be done soon so make sure you’re down by then.” Mrs Jones said. Grace entered her room and lay on the bed. She pulled out a diary and wrote in it. “Dear diary , Today when in school around hometime when I was packing all my stuff to go home I felt someone pulling me. I turned around to see who It was and it was an extremely tall guy. I don’t know what happened but I couldn’t speak. I just stared into his beautiful eyes until he called to me. His voice was dazzling and deep.” Just then Mrs Jones called out to Grace and she got up and left to the dining room.
The next day, Grace woke up to Mrs Jones coming into her room. “ There’s someone outside waiting for you,” Mrs Jones said.
“Who?” Grace questioned
“A guy,” Mrs Jones replied. Grace got up, made her bed, got dressed and went downstairs. When she reached downstairs she saw Kai waiting for her. “Hey, want to come to the nearby cafe with me?” Kai asked.
“Sure,” Grace replied.
“Let’s go then.” They got up and left for the cafe. When at the cafe Kai asked
“Will you be my girlfriend?” Grace sat there silently not knowing what to say. She had a bit of feelings for Kai but she still likes her ex. Grace agreed and watched Kai jump in delight. Maybe it was better for her and maybe she could finally forget about her ex. “I forgot to tell you that my older brother is coming to join us. If you don’t mind, of course.” Kai said. “It’s fine,” Grace replied. 10 minutes later while Grace and Kai were talking a guy came into the cafe and sat down next to them. “Hey” the guy said. Grace recognized the voice and looked up at him.“B-Beomgyu?” Grace said, appalled. Beomgyu looked down at Grace. Kai stared at them both confused. “You two know each other?” Kai said. “No we don’t.” Grace and Kai replied at the same time.
“Alright then. I’m going to go order. I’ll be back soon.” Kai said. After Kai left,
Beomgyu said irritatedly, “Why are you here?!”
“I was invited here.” Grace said annoyed.
“What are you doing with my brother?” Beomgyu said.
“I haven’t done anything!” Grace said, almost yelling. As Grace got up to leave, Beomgyu said “I’m sorry for yelling at you.”
Grace said “It’s fine” as she sat back down.
“You know, I s-still have f-feeling for y-you.” Grace said anxiously.
“If we’re being honest I still kind of have a crush on you too. That’s why I got mad at you earlier because I couldn’t stand the fact that you were going to date my brother, not me.” Beomgyu said. Grace nodded.
“Do you actually like Kai?” Beomgyu said hoping she would say no.
“No, not really, he’s cute but he’s not my type.” Grace replied.
“Would you like to be my girlfriend then?” Beomgyu said.
“Sure, but we have to keep it a secret for now because I already told Kai that I would be his girlfriend.” Grace said.
“How are we supposed to keep it a secret?” Beomgyu said curiously.
“I’ll publicly date Kai and then secretly date you at the same time.” Grace replied. “Alright” Beomgyu replied. Just then Kai came back and the two stopped talking.
“I’m back with the drinks.” Kai said while putting the drinks on the table. He had heard everything but instead of confronting them he had opened the lids of their drinks and poured a white powder into their drinks and stirred it.
After everyone had gone home it was already 11pm and really dark. Mrs Jones was already asleep so Grace went to her room, changed into her pajamas and lay down on the bed. As soon as she layed on her bed she fell asleep instantly. Her bedroom door cracked open and Kai walked in. “I can’t believe you betrayed me with my own brother.” Kai said. “You messed with the wrong guy.” Kai said. Just then Kai picked Grace up and took her to the nearby forest, took a lighter out of his pocket, lit it, threw it on her sleeping body and laughed as her body crumbled away as the fire raged.
