Prologue
Late that night Ember the fire ferret gazed out into the gloomy depths of London to be horrified by the sight of 2 large metallic airships hovering above the shiny airship known as the trusty dragonfly. She soon saw peculiar silver men zip wiring to the dragonfly as wild as an ape in the African jungle. To Embers surprise she perceived the loud footsteps of metal boots, then terrifyingly heard razing jaws of a chainsaw like a mighty lion’s growl that could shake the whole of London. She suddenly smelled engine oil leaking from their ship, it was as strong as a field of lavender. Flapping her wings ember quickly flew to her master’s study yet to her surprise he was out cold, she quickly got him up. Ember chirped, “John the ship is no longer safe we must escape NOW!”
Chapter 1
In the playground at noon, Lily Hartman sneakily crept out of the dinner hall like a mouse. She ran to the chestnut tree to read the postcard again.
Dear lily my darling daughter I really miss you so, but there is an important instruction I must give you. Make sure you save time and stay safe.
Lily’s mind felt so confused she didn’t understand how she could save time she must get Robert, but how? In order to tell Lily’s loyal friend, she’d have to escape Ms Penny’s Academy for Girls. So that evening, Lily ran, ran like the wind with her PennyDreadfuls in one hand and the postcard in the other. Soon she’d be free.
Suddenly in the distance she could hear the crackling of flames and the flapping of a bird’s wings. Yet a warm smile came to Lily’s face as the familiar fire ferret known as Ember landed on the girl’s warm shoulder. However, that lovely perky smile did not appear to the ferrets feathered face. The young school girl’s smile then turned to a frown as the ferret explained her father’s mysterious words.
“But why?” lily asked surprised.
“Where’s papa, is he safe, why are you here?” she insisted.
“All in good time,” ember chirped gently.
“We must find your mothers locket hidden beneath is… “Oh I’ve said too much, find Robert my dear, find him soon!”
That cold winter evening, the young 10-year-old girl found Robert in Cogstone alley down on MacKellan lane they both cached up then got down to business.
“We must hurry,” Robert said excitedly.
“Yes, we shall leave at the crack of dawn, and ember shall come too,” Lily replied boldly.

The thunder roared as blinding rods of electricity came crashing to the earth beneath the children’s feet and black clouds shadowed the suns precious light. Inside the great building lily slowly walked to her mother’s old bedroom while the clock worker (in training) known as Robert wandered through the cold damp hallways. Lily’s small infant eyes were met by a large oak door inside she would be happy to find the special object she and her friends had been looking for. Noisily the door spookily creeped open. Lily found herself net to the bedside table onto lay a wooden horse with the locket around its neck, the memory’s brought salty tears to her eyes.
The girls loyal friend Robert and trusted Mechanimal Ember rushed into the large room. Lily picked up the locket then sobbed her throbbing heart out. The window flung open drying her tears, however, the wind also revealed a great secret a secret that would change everything.
“Look!” chirped ember helpfully.
“Oh, well done ember!” Robert cried loudly.
What, what, what could they possibly be speaking about? But soon it was all clear when Lily carefully placed her pale fingers across a small folded up map.it led to a secret
underground…warehouse. What was so special about a warehouse, this question is what lily and her friends would soon discover.
