Evacuee Letter By Lily SWW

Dear Mam,

The journey was brilliant. I really liked the extra toffee treat that you sneaked in as well as everything else; peanut butter sandwich, an apple and a nice, juicy toffee apple. Whilst I was eating it, a girl named Claire came to sit on a large seat opposite me. She was nice and shared her lunch with me! Even though Claire looked scared, I knew that she was very friendly. I asked her if she had any friends. She answered back with a frown. Any way, Zac’s okay and I’m even better. I am missing you Mam. I really am.

When we arrived at the staion, which was in Stone, we were taken straight to the village hall. Gas masks were being held by nervous, sweaty hands. There were eight adults waiting for us. We sat down and waited to be selected. I was nervous but excited at the same time. As soon as I thought nobody would take me and Zac, this nice lady named Mrs Baites chose us both! I was thrilled!

Her house was small, but it was reasonable. Mrs Baites’ accent was nothing like I’ve ever heard. She spoke like this, “Hello, ma dears! Gosh, you look tired. Go upstairs to the left and get yourself some rest.”

I was polite but quite shy. Zac was afraid and was always hiding behind me. He likes the chickens though. Sometimes I have to feed the freaky animals called cows. They are huge and frightening. I much prefer the lambs. Amoungst the animals, there is a small sheep dog called Poppy. She is adorable.

I am perfectly fine here, but part of me misses you, home and Papa.

Lots of lovely wishes,
Lily and Zac.

The Ship Of Fury by Lily SWW

The Ship of Fury

Shouts of children are murdered by swirling mist.
If you listen carefully
you will discover secrets from over

Punches of fury were
just visible through the old,
mossy windows.

Gold covered the ancient,
grubby floor boards as
moss was being
plucked off the coins.

On the ship of fury,
waves kissed the deck
as Captain Stone grabbed hold of the wheel
keeping it under control.

On the ship of fury,
lifebuoys hang over the
end of the broken boat
that is lost at sea.

Koalamander ch3 Lily SWW

Chapter 3

A few days later, we are sat in the cosiness of my cubby hole. Slowly, we slurp our hot chocolate down (my absolute favourite) and stay in silence. Outside, the wild waves are climbing over the rocks. Inside, I am wrapped up in my huge black blanket. Charlotte sits up and looks me directly in the eye. “Right then,” she begins, “I have been building a plan in this silence, want to hear it?” I huff and get ready for the plan that she has got in her crazy head.

Apparently, Charlotte has been investigating (on her own in this weird town) without me. Even though I never really wanted to witness the koalamander, I don’t like to be the one to blame if someone dies.

Locking the fish and chip shop, I run to keep up with Charlotte’s pounding feet. She is wasting no time finding evidence and the koalamander. I manage to catch her up and get my breath back. The wind brushes through my hair and we do our coats up tighter than usual. The sun is just visible behind the hills; Charlotte is pointing at something. I follow her arm and notice a shadow looming near the hill. “Is that…?” I whisper. We both hold our breath in awe.

I had no clue of what Charlotte was saying: she was talking to herself, like people do. On the sand, there are trails of strawberry juice which looked like blood. The shadow is hidden now but we are pretty sure it’s that ugly legend. I am holding onto Charlotte’s arm now: she is brave but I know inside her head that she is frightened.

We stroll over to a mysterious cave and switch our torches on. The wind is slowing. Boulders are smashed on the floor and puddles of water cover the silvery floor. Charlotte is creeping towards the darker corner of the crumbly cave. Just as I am about to suggest to go back, Charlotte beckons me over. “Look! It’s a nest!” I stare at the stone nest. Directly in the middle of it is a shimmering glass like egg.

Charlotte steps away. I follow her move. The ground shakes and the puddles wobble. I grab my leg: something scratches me. I am oblivious to it after a few seconds because I’m trying to find out where the Koalamander is. Charlotte is smiling and frowning at the same time so I think that she is enjoying the show. We are both aware of the danger: the koalamander. Charlotte is creeping towards the nest trying to grab the egg.

Chapter 2 Koalamander By Lily SWW

Chapter 2
We stare at each other for a while. I question her, “Why are you here?” Outside, I can hear the wild waves crashing against the slippery shore. Before she answers I have an idea of what she’s going to say just like when I know when cook gives me a chip. My brain was right: she has definitely seen the koalamander.

Fifteen minutes later, we are standing in the freezing cold. She has already told me her name so that if I get lost, which I probably won’t, I will be able to call her by her name. We retraced Charlottes steps but it was hard because the waves are smudging the footsteps. The sea sprays into our faces like we were not allowed to be on the beach this late. I am starting to regret this now because my face is going numb and Charlotte is running way ahead of me. In the distant, thunder rumbles and lightning crackles.

We reach the town and pass unusual shops: the tiny toy shop that is on open on the weekends and half term; Mrs Tots’s sweet shop (who normally gives me lollies for free); and an abandoned school – at the edge of the town.

Charlotte grabs me and pulls me towards the pier where my jaw drops. There, – sitting in front of us- are huge monster paw prints. The shape is like an uneven egg. Grey fur trails along the broken pier, blowing around in the harsh winds. I gulp. Afraid to move any closer to the fur. Charlotte doesn’t flinch; she barges through the wet, cold wind towards the small cabinet at the end of the pier.

Gently, I tip-toe over the old pier that is still standing from ages ago. I open the door and creep in the abandoned zone of terror. The smell of fish guts meet my bunged-up nosed. The wind slams the door shut and makes the wood crack. Charlotte walks forward looking like she is not afraid of anything. Just then, I feel a splatter of something on my neck. I freeze, not wanting to cry; so I don’t look like a baby in front of Charlotte.

Slowly, I look over at Charlotte who is trying not to laugh. Of course. She had to use her slime gun on me. But, a screech came from deeper in the cabin. This was no joke.

Outside, clouds form from underneath the lightning. Inside, the sudden flash of light fills the room and creates a monster from a child’s dream. The koalamander creeps out of the darkness and charges itself through the broken door and onto the slippery pier. It stops. Turns around to have one last look at us then jumps off the pier. The sea engulfs the monster and creates a big splash in the salty water.

The Monster by Lily SWW

Yesterday evening, the most extraordinary thing happened. I was strolling along the beach and Poppy was scampering of sniffing the perfectly round pebbles. The waves were rolling carelessly along the shore and I stumbled over to the pier holding my coat close to my chest.

As I reached the pier grey clouds formed ahead and the sea got angrier. The ground shook and the rocks tumbled. Something emerged from the ground.

Grabbing the surface with it’s scaly tentacles it came eye to eye with me. It’s body was covered in green slime and it’s teeth could probably rip me to bits. I whistled for Poppy but she didn’t come. The creature plodded towards me, slobber dripping down it’s mouth.

Suddenly, footsteps came dashing towards me. It was Poppy! As soon as she was next to me she froze then barked viciously. The monster submerged back under the pebbles and we ran back to the Grand Nautilus Hotel.

Walking in stone by Lily SWW

Walking in Stone

On Monday, I saw a frosted

tree with bony fingers that

wrapped around the tall mountains.

On Tuesday, I found a book that

had been sat on my nans dusty shelf

like a homeless person wanting a home.

On Wednesday, I walked along the slippery

water bank of the canal as a gaggle of

geese came up to me.

On Thursday, I heard the whisper

of Robins in the tops of the frosted,

frozen trees.

On Friday, I stared at the beautiful sunset

that stole the peaceful sky.

On Saturday, I listened to the peaceful

song of a robin sitting outside of my bedroom.

On Sunday, I tasted the happiness down town

whilst I waited for the winter days to end.

Cogheart ch3 Lily

Chapter 3: Stuck
All afternoon, Rosie was still finding out how to escape the dusty shed. Liam was fed up of being in a coal shed and nearly fell asleep. However, Rosie would not give up. Just because Lady Amber Kaye had locked them up didn’t mean they had to stay in there forever. Rosie spent some time banging against the solid, wooden oak door. After that, she tried smashing the thick glass that was placed in between a nail and the door. It was no use nothing worked.

Every so often, Rosie turned and placed all her anger on Liam, “If you want to get us out of here then you better help me!” However, Liam just shrugged his shoulders and started to daydream. So instead, Rosie tip toed round the shed searching for a way out. Suddenly, an idea popped into her head. The door. Maybe she could use one of her hair pins to try and undo the lock. 5 minutes had passed and she was out of hair clips because all of them had broken in the process of escaping.

Exhausted, she spun round once again and had a proper go at Liam, “If you weren’t so lazy then you would probably be helping me!”
Liam sighed.
“Well I guess you have been trying. But you haven’t got us out!” shouted Liam.
“If I have your help we might as well try.” exclaimed Rosie, standing with her hands on her hips and shaking her head.

The two of them sat in silence. Liam was on the floor humming a tune that sounded familiar to Rosie. There seemed no way out of this catastrophe. Inside, tall shadows climbed up the walls and soon it was pitch dark. Outside, stars painted the sky in such a beautiful way that it looked like it wasn’t real.

Just as Rosie was falling asleep, a noise was just outside of the coal shed. The two siblings ran up to the window and squinted their eyes so that they could see what it was. A loud yap filled the silence. Rosie heard something by the door. Something had slid under the door. It looked like a note. Levi was patently stood infront of the door. “Are you going to read it or not?” questioned Levi. Carefully, Rosie read the letter. It said, “You can change the future but you can’t change yourself.” Liam was surprised to hear it.

As soon as Rosie finished a key slided under the heavy door. Rosie’s mouth dropped. “Where did you get this from?” she asked whilst twisting it in the lock. The door opened and Liam was the first to run out and give Levi a scratch under the chin. Rosie followed soon after and Levi was so excited to see her. His joy was like a bottle fizzing up.

15 minutes later, they were all in the field of Evening Falls manor with Liam trying to light a fire. Rosie volunteered to try and managed to do it. Liam was a little embarrased. They huddled up together in front of the fire and started to chat. Under the tree, the siblings could hear little chirps from in the branches. Liam suddenly remembered the jewelery box. “Guys! What about the jewelery box that Lady Amber Kaye stole from us?”
“Oh,” exclaimed Rosie “yes we need to find a way to get it back from that evil witch!”
Levi barked, “When I was getting the key I noticed that she was making plans about something but now we need to focus!”

Cogheart By Lily

Prologue
Levi gazed out of the Swan’s frosted window as the black airship creeped closer. He noticed the ships harpoons shining in the sunlight like bronze arrows ready for action. Levi heard the roar of the canons firing bullets that travelled as far as two miles. He sensed the burning gas as a fire caught hold of the airship as sharp as acid. Perching next to his mistress, Levi was terrified as was Emily Mail. Levi barked,
“By all that ticks Emily it’s time for you to jump! Humans before mechanimals!”

Chapter 1: The Letter
Shoving the back door of St Gates Academy for Girls, Rosie Mail peered across the field. No one could be seen, so that meant that this was a good opportunity to try and escape from this dreadful place. She ran as fast as she could to get a big run up to climb the overlooking fence that surrounded the school. She’d nearly reached the top when she slipped but luckily landed the other side of the fence in a big pile of leaves. She sighed and crouched down by a tree. A crumpled piece of paper fell out of her coat pocket.

Once again, Rosie opened the brown letter. Suddenly, her relief turned into sadness and her sadness turned into tears. The letter was about her mum in the airship. She read through some of the terrible news that wasn’t too upsetting. Weird memories enclosed her. She remembered her mother saying to her “Choose wisely but don’t read the rings.” This puzzled Rosie but she still believed it would be some use to her in the future.

At that moment something creeped out of behind the tree. Rosie shivered. “Hello? Who’s there?” Rosie shouted. Just then it came out of it’s hiding place. Of course. It was Levi. He came running up to Rosie with a tired looking face, ” Rosie please could you wind me up I’ve been running away from those scallywags and most of my tics and tocks have run out!” Rosie smiled and started to wind him up with all of her strength. She stood up and gave Levi’s floppy ears a little stroke. Then Rosie just double checked him in case of any injuries. He was in fine form.

On that same day, Liam was surprised to see Rosie and Levi walking down the street towards him.
“Brother! Brother! We’re coming” Explained Rosie. Her legs were going as fast as they could which Liam thought would fall of! Liam frowned. “What’s up little sis?”
“Have you heard the news about mum?” Murmured Rosie.
“Yes! She has finally got her airship up and flying!” Exclaimed Liam.
“No. Baddies attacked her.” Rosie looked down. Liam couldn’t believe it. Suddenly, he realized about her special jewellery box. He told Rosie how their mother always mentioned about how to keep it safe from very bad people. Liam and Rosie had a great idea and somehow Levi knew it too.

“It’s the only option we have. We must get back to Evening Falls to rescue that Jewellery box!” Exclaimed Levi. Everyone agreed that they would get a train three hours before morning and hope that the baddies would not be there!

Chapter 2: The Macguffin
Staring up at the magnificent house, Rosie could see no lights on in the manor but just the familiar old flowers that burst up every spring. Liam wasn’t great at breaking into houses nor was Rosie but they accepted a challenge. Levi pounded on over to the door and started scratching the door mat as if something useful was under there. The two siblings raced over to the posh porch. Levi barked in excitment. They lifted the mat up and there, lying in peace, was indeed a key.

Inside the old, dusty house was a staircase that Levi thought would crumble down. Rosie was already in her mums room.
“Liam! Come up here immediately! I found have the Jewellery box!”
Liam raced up the stairs nearly tripping himself up!

In their mums bedroom there were flowers on the windowsill, three wardrobes and a lovely make-up desk. Rosie was sat on the holding the box with a few tears running down cheek. Carefully, she opend the box. A picture of rings fell on the floor but before Rosie could grab it someone was standing at the door. Someone very familair. It was Emily’s worst friend. Lady Amber Kaye. Her nose made Rosie shiver.
“I see that your…..Mech..an…imal is waiting for you outside!”
Rosie was about to cry. The jewellery box is filled with different bits of jewelery that was only kept in her family. Now it’s like she is taking that importance away.

Lady Amber kaye was outside locking Rosie and Liam in the coal shed. Lady Amber kaye laughed and twisted the key. They were doomed.

After pacing around, Liam finaly sat down on one of the bumpy coal bags. Rosie had enough hope that they would get out of there to last a gazillion years. But Liam on the othre hand did not. So instead he left the thinking to Rosie instead.
