Ice breaker

Prologue

You’ve probably been on a skyship when the creamy clouds float by like fluffy bunnies, and every now and then a cool breeze comes and ripples your chocolate milk. Remember how it feels to have the bright sun shining down on you like a ginormous oven cooking a pie, looking down at Note Island, Bird Bunkers and Raging Volcanoes feeling totally free of a normal day.

I bet you’ve enjoyed the moonlight lighting the night and journeys to find unfound animals, knowing that once you have landed you will have a family symbol.

But you should also try a trip when the sea is as high as sky-scrapers and the wind will blow your head off. For that is another story. When the rain falls down like mini-meteors all around you and a lightning strike would smash your ship into smithereens like  wood-cutters cutting wood. When the balloon looks like it’s about to pop and the mast is nearly bent, that’s when a skyship ride is not so much fun.

Some say they’ve seen sea dragons hiding in the sea, waiting to attack. You probably won’t believe this, but some say that there are evil fairies with bows and arrows that can pierce through anything.

Chapter 1

Polly grasped the handle, “Watch out!” she yelled, nearly falling over. William seemed to be loving it. He kept nearly falling off the ship and he couldn’t stop laughing. They should have been at Enchanted Forest seven days ago but the storm had blown them off course.

At that moment, the lava dragons struck. William saw seven of them rise out of the stormy cloud and three giant claws dive down towards the ship. Luckily, they missed and slashed the sky. Captain David grasped the steering wheel and pulled it to one side, narrowly avoiding a tremendous crash.

For a moment they couldn’t see the dragons but they suddenly reappeared, “Quick, hit full blast!” shouted William.

A moment later, the ice breaker avoided the rough storm cloud and they had to land to repair their skyship. Hoping the dragons had gone, they landed…

Chapter 2

Suddenly, Polly saw the dragons disappear but then her focus was on the smell of the forest they had landed on. Polly could smell  the sweet smell of juicy pouf fruit. “What’s that smell?” Polly exclaimed.

“I don’t know,” said William, He could not make ot where he was either. There was weird fruit, multi-coloured dirt and lots and lots of tree. He had also noticed that the forest he had landed on was very wet and damp. The clouds blocked out the sun and created an unusual feeling. It also made a mysterious taste too. Immediately, Polly saw something bound towards her.

Chapter 3

Something was whining nearby to Polly. “What’s that picture?” whispered Polly. William, whose face was concentrating very much, wondered what the peculiar creature was and where it had come from. “It’s some kind of dragon,” commented Polly.

“And it looks like it’s hurt,” added William. William ran to fetch a blanket, while Polly protected the animal. It was soft, fluffy and brown. It was a chocolate dragon.

Chapter 4” onward”

After the crew had rested, they built the sky ship and off they went. It was a warm evening and the baby dragon was playing with one of the crew members, Polly was on top deck staring at the stars and William was on the bottom deck. He was daydreaming, staring out of the window. He could see thousands of tree tops, Raging volcano and Tornado desert.

Suddenly, they heard some jumping and scratching. It made them jump. “What’s that?” whispered William. There it was again, but this time it was closer. Polly raced downstairs, down the corridor and… “It’s just the baby dragon playing with one of its toys” remarked Polly.

Just then, Captain David appeared, “You should be asleep now,” he declared. They soon fell fast asleep as The Ice Breaker gently drifted on.

The Misty Airship

Prologue

You’ve probably been on an airship when the wind rustles your hair and you can see the sparkling sea below.

Remember how it feels to have the warm sun on your face as you watch the pink clouds at dawn and stare at diving dolphins.

I bet you’ve enjoyed watching the Northern Lights.

But you should never try the whole expedition when the wind is like knives, the sea is wild  and rain pelting like bullets on your face.

Some say they are guarded by the turquoise dragon.

Chapter 1:

“Henner!” shouted John, “hold on. I will pull you up!”

When Henner was back on the ship she started laughing.

“Why are you laughing?” asked John.

They had started at Turnip Island two weeks ago but they were above the sea because they lost the map at home.

Suddenly the grey rain clouds appeared. Everyone looked up. Suddenly an earpiercing roar came into earshot. A massive dragon was circling above them.

They went into the storm clouds. “I think we’ve escaped” But John was wrong, two more dragons were circling above.

“Oh no!” said Henner, “ I think we’re going to die”. But suddenly a silver dragon came. This dragon didn’t attack them at all, it attacked the other dragons instead. It was an island water dragon. After a good two minutes, she had defeated the other dragons and then with a flick of her tail, she disappeared.

Chapter 2

Suddenly they descended at an alarming rate. They landed in a jungle with sparkling lakes, loads of fruit, leaping tigers, roaring lions and sleeping monkeys. But it didn’t compare to the Whispering Waterfall. They could smell fancy fruit and the taste of a wet wind. The moon hung higher than the trees. They could see no buildings, only trees. They felt very alone. They had no hope. Suddenly Henner saw a pair of glaring eyes.

“Can you see what I see ?  ….”

Chapter 3

Something was staring at them with emerald eyes. “What is it?” said John.

“Not an it, a who” said Henner. A single breathe could scare it. Henner, whose kind face twisted into a fateful look, took a big sigh as she bent down.  John, whose face turned into a frown, stood staring at it. They saw that it was red with a midnight black nose. It was a fox. “Oh no it’s hurt” said Henner. It had a blood-stained leg. They fetched a towel and wrapped it in it.

Chapter 4

Several hours later, when they had patched the skyship up, Henner and John were asleep in the cabin. John woke up. “ Hey, Henner<” whispered John. Henner started opening her eyes and then she sprinted down the corridor. John ran after her and found her on the deck. They saw leaping deer on the edges of fields and trees.

Just then, they heard a massive bump. “Oh no!” exclaimed John, “Its a volcano!”

“It’s not,” replied a calm voice, “it’s just a clumsy crew member dropping a pan”

“You two should be in bed, but since you’re not, come for breakfast”

The skyship glided smoothly into the night. They may have not known yet but many more adventures were waiting for them..

The Foxglove

Chapter 1

Lilly sprinted up to the Foxglove smiling happily as she shouted “Slowcoach, hurry up!” Milo panted up the alleyway. Yesterday, they had had the news that their mum had mysteriously gone missing and all he could think about was her.

A couple of minutes later, they were back in their pretty blue house. As they jumped onto their shared bed, the doorbell rang. Lilly darted downstairs before leaping into the hall and opening the door to a mysterious lady.

The lady had a tingly smell and wore a sailor dress. It was blue and she had silver earrings in the shape of a map. Their dad said, “Come in Addie.” Just seconds later Addie was explaining why she had come. It turns out that she had heard that Lily and Milo’s mum had gone missing and wanted to go on the Foxglove to find treasure and their mum.

Chapter 2

The ship juddered as it glided across the moonlit sky. Just a week ago, Addie had persuaded Lilly and Milo to go on a trip to find their mum.

Suddenly, the birds shrieked and the sky darkened. They could hear rain pattering into a rainstorm as the wind started to hassle them as raindrops soaked them.  Milo glanced at Lilly, who was yelling something as she got closer, “ All crew below deck.”

The box that their mum got them rattled. Lilly and Milo darted over to it. Milo opened his tool box and pulled it open, tugged a crowbar out and opened the box. Inside was a tiny purple and blue dragon with enormous green eyes. At that moment, the ship lurched to one side. Lilly jumped up and ran out of the room. Milo didn’t follow. He was scared. He peeked out. A huge dragon was looking back. The tiny dragon was nibbling his ear. He pulled the little dragon off his shoulder, jumped up and ran out of the pale pink and yellow living room. He thrust the trap door open. All he could see were blurs of two huge dragons. He jumped up. Lilly lunged past holding a huge knife. Milo ran to the edge of the Foxglove but one of the dragons lunged on him. Lilly saw, she jumped on the dragon and wrestled it away. Finally, the dragons gave up.

Suddenly, the airship plummeted down towards a beautiful island. When they landed, Lilly and Milo tumbled out. They saw towering golden temples surrounded by crystal clear lagoons, big emerald leaves on trees of all shapes and sizes. They could touch huge bundles of fruit like mangos and bananas. They could smell cinnamon, ginger and other spices. They sensed it was lunch time even though there was an amazing sunset of pink, gold, red and blue. Just then they smelt fresh, sweet and musty and they felt hot and clammy. But if they moved slightly it would be cold and felt wet and they found they would be just the right temperature.

At that moment they heard something…

Chapter 3

Something was floating down unconsciously. It landed at Lilly’s boots with a gentle thud. Lilly, whose white heavily freckled face erupted with a grin, excitedly flung herself to a sitting position next to the little object. Meanwhile Milo, whose soft hands shook badly, timidly hid behind the hull of the ship. Lilly called, “It’s OK, the poor little fella’s not exactly in a condition to bite you.”

Milo crept forwards. He could see the creature more closely now. It had white ears that looked like feathers. It had a small body and big wings with a pom pom like tail. It was a flying rabbit! Milo rushed back to the ship, grabbed a fluffy blanket and thrust it at Lilly, who wrapped the little rabbit up.

Chapter 4

Five hours later they repaired the ship and were sailing through the evening sky. Lily found a place in the bunkbed room and had snuggled up the little flying rabbit. Milo and Lilly were on deck wrapped up in blankets. The two children saw puffed up clouds floating by like a flock of sheep munching on a blue field. Lilly thought she’d never rest without the breeze messing up her hair. They peered over the edge and saw golden fields of daffodils, the sea glittering like sapphires and farmers tended to the corn fields.

Without warning, they suddenly saw illuminated lights glowing into the night. Weirdly, they heard creaking like rusty metal joints. Milo shrunk back and whispered, “ I don’t know what it is but I think it’s a bad dragon.” Lilly nodded.

A crew member called Addie to come over. “That’s not a bad dragon, it’s just the observatory. You need to go to bed now, you’re overtired. Ten seconds later, weak with relief, they fell into their bunk beds and went to sleep, dreaming of bad dragons. The sky ship calmly sailed on into the distance.

And even though they hadn’t found their mum, they still had been on an exciting adventure and had found a baby dragon and a flying rabbit. Maybe they will see her on their next trip.

“Eva”

Grace

Prologue

You’ve probably been on an airship when the skies are blue, the clouds are hardly there and bad dragons sleep while crumpet dragons snuggle.

Remember how you felt when Pixie’s flew across the deck while the elves cook cupcakes and when wind fills the wings.

I bet you’ve enjoyed days when sprites gaze at the sun and the sun is hot on most beaches.

But be warned of the days when winter rolls in. The wind will pierce through your heart, shattering it into pieces. When the wind tugs on the ship and rocks one side to the other. That’s when bad dragons are awake.

Chapter 1

“Grace, Kate grab onto that pole!”

But Kate couldn’t reach. Her hand was pressed against her mouth. She was trying not to be sick while Grace was dancing around on the deck smiling. They had left Lakeside Village ten sights ago. They should have been flying over Frozen Island two sights ago but the compass was sabotaged and they had flown into a storm.

At that moment, bad dragon flew out of a cloud and circled the ship ready to fire. Swaying and swooping, the dragon’s mouth blazing, back arched, wings stretched. Just then a bit of fire struck.

At that second, a tiny dragon launched at the fight. The crew headed into the cabin but Grace couldn’t move because she was petrified….

When all was lost, the second dragon stared at Grace. Next, she shot at bad dragon, then blasted him. As they flew away bad dragon shot the second dragon and they disappeared from sight.

Chapter 2

At that moment, they started to fall rapidly, “What’s wrong?” Kate screamed.

“We’re out of juice,” Captain Lachland shouted, “Prepare for landing!”

Grace opened her eyes. She was in a cave. Bones were scattered everywhere and there was a shipwreck right beside her. Outside was a forest of ashes and blood was running across the floor. Roars came from behind the ship. She realised every one was lying on the floor but the most amazing thing was that she had not a scratch

She could smell rotten meat that made her feel sick. Damp fur scent spread across the cave. Grace felt fear grip her heart, pulling her into the darkness. She heard deafening roars in the black darkness, ready to pounce. The stars outside were black and it was midnight. She tasted mud and smoke floating up to her mouth. It tasted bitter. Then she realised it was not smoke, it was sleep mist and it kept on filling the cave.

Chapter 3

Grace, whose face lit up a smile every day, gulped as the sleep mist consumed her. Kate, whose face was full of fear, opened her eyes wide, grabbed Grace and dashed outside. Something was squeaking in the darkness. Velvet eyes stared at Grace trying to communicate. “Sorry, I can’t understand you, what are you doing?” Slowly, the creature stepped into the light from a fire. “ I..i.. it’s a dragon,” Kate spluttered. Someone was screaming so Grace couldn’t hear very well. They listened, but the voice stopped. They heard leaves rustling and then someone peered around the corner!` With big velvet eyes and glowing crumpet scales, the dragon pounced on the girl. She was knocked over and went tumbling to the ground. Grace raced over help her up and then said, “ My name is Grace and this is Kate.”

“ Do you have a bandage I could use?” Aver giggled, introducing herself and her sister Loloo. They bandaged the dragon’s leg and slipped it into Kate’s bag. Grace announced that it was a crumpet dragon. That made sense because of the crumpet scales. Kate and Loloo wrapped up the crumpet dragon and Grace thought of names. She decided on Rubet, which Aver thought was funny.

Chapter 4

Ten hours later, Loloo and Aver could not find their way home so they helped Grace and Kate on their way home. Out of the scraps, Grace built a mini skyship with a nest for Rubet, and four beds for them and Kate. As they slept, stars shone above.

Early next morning, Grace and Kate awoke to golden songs cheeping while Rubert chased his tail. Soon the smell of bacon filled the ship, a cloud passed and all was silent except for the buzzing of the engine.

At that moment, Kate spotted an aqua blue thing. The blue thing had a black dot in the centre looking straight at them. Kate realised it was an eye as big as ten schools. But Grace reassured her that it was just the lake next to their village.

Grace could hardly wait for the next adventure.

Henner, whose kind face twisted into a fateful look, took a big sigh as she bent down.  John, whose face turned into a frown, stood staring at it. They saw that it was red with a midnight black nose. chapter 3

Something was floating down unconsciously. It landed at Lily’s boots with a gentle thud. Lily, whose white heavily freckled face erupted with a grin, excitedly flung herself to a sitting position next to the little object. Meanwhile Miles, whose soft hands shook badly, timidly hid behind the hull of the ship. Lily called, “It’s OK, the poor little fella’s not exactly in a condition to bite you.”

Miles crept forwards. He could see the creature more closely now. It had white ears that looked like feathers. It had a small body and big wings with a pom pom like tail. It was a flying rabbit! Milo rushed back to the ship, grabbed a fluffy blanket and thrust the blanket at Lilly, who wrapped the little rabbit up.
