Question Poem

What is happiness? The sound of a young girl playing tag with her friends, someone opening a present at a birthday party and my mum when the laundry’s finished.

What is sad? A broken heart,  a girl whose boyfriend broke up with her and my dad when his phone dies.

 

What is crazy? People who have sugar rushes, my brother when my mum comes home with doughnuts and my friends when I get my Six programme out.

What is normal? Me turning cartwheels, wearing coats in the rain and my Dad on his phone.

 

What is fun? Going on the biggest bouncy castle, shopping trips at Claires and Waterstones and that feeling when your sibling gets blamed for eating the last cookie in the jar.

What is boring? A maths teacher droning on about fractions and decimals, when my Mum is watching Hollyoaks at 6.00pm and when your friends do spelling tests in the playground. 

 

What is loud? My brother at 3.00am singing Baby shark, an elephant stomp and the sickening crack as a leg breaks. 

What is quiet? A mouse’s tiny tiptoe, the classroom when they’re waiting for the lunch bell and the awkward silence when your friend blurts out your secrets. 

 

What is beautiful? Sunlight shimmering on a clean, blue sea, a black, leather handbag on sale for £450 and Ellen-Jane on her wedding day.

What is ugly? The sound of jeans ripping as they get caught on a tree branch, someone who thinks awful and deadly thoughts and the crying of a little boy after a temper tantrum.

 

What is sweet? The love between a dog and girl, sweets galore in the sweet store and happy girls giving each other friendship bracelets.

What is sour? The sweets Sour patch kids, lemons and limes and that kid no one likes at school. 

 

What is cold? Winter nights, snow falling heavily, turning the grass into a cold white carpet and the tip of Mount Everest on the coldest day.

What is warm? A roaring fire in the grate, saying sorry to your best friend after a fight and she forgives you and a chicken and ham pie straight out of the oven, ready to share with friends and family.

What is shiny? The scales of a goldfish that’s swimming in the ocean and an Olympic gold medal won by an athlete.
What is dusty? An old antique sitting on a shelf collecting dust and a spider web in the corner of a room that’s been there for a year.

 

What is hot? A light bulb that’s been on for too long and hot molten lava fresh out of a volcano.
What is cold? An ice cube straight out of a freezer, snow when you touch with your bare hands and when you step outside really early in the morning when it’s all foggy.

 

What is heavy? A heavy brick, a big bunch of coal and an adult (about 18).
What is light? A feather floating down to the ground and a cute little teddy bear.

 

What is hard? A piece of timber, a hardback book and a wall made out of wood.
What is furry? A really fluffy dog, a furry jumper you wear on a cold day and a winter coat hood.

What is loud? A helicopter just taking off, music on full volume and a tiger’s roar.

What is quiet? The sound of a bumble bee buzzing quietly, a flower swaying in the breeze and snow drops falling on my face.

 

What is hard? A hammer hitting a brick, rain hitting an umbrella and a mattress that is rock hard.

What is soft? A silk scarf on a winter’s day, a furry coat with a warm inside and my cat Peach’s fur.

 

What is hot? A warm summer day, a hot tub that is nice and relaxing and a hot, toasty campfire to roast marshmallows on.

What is cold? A mint chocolate chip ice cream, An ice sculpture and Ice cubes in a drink of freezing cold lemonade.

 

What is rough? A piece of burnt toast right from the toaster, a knot inside of my hair and a pinecones side.

What is smooth? Polished wood, a new book from the library and a brand new pile of snow that has landed perfectly.

What is sweet?

The steam of delicious hot melted chocolate,the sound of a girl humming in joy as she eats mint choc chip ice cream,the juicy  watermelons when they just came out of the cold isle in the grocery store.

 

What is sour?

A girl eating  her favourite sour sweets(sour patch kids ), my dad  eating lemons, and my mum  saying that she won’t buy me new shoes.

 

What is quiet?

The awkward silence when your  history teacher asks you a question, A girl when she is getting told off by her mum and dad, and a  mouse sleeping.

 

What is cold?

The second you get into your bed and that cold shivering feeling shimmers up ur back,the silence of when  ur friend gets told off by her mum at a sleepover,my dad’s  face when his phone runs out and he blames me that i used it.

 

What is happiness?

A little girl realising that she got a cute golden retriever for her birthday,

Me when my mum takes my on daughter and mother day in the trafford centre,my mum when she saw me doing my homework

 

What is kind?

Me and my bff’s having each other’s  backs,me wanting to help my mum with some house chores for money of course,the sound of my and my cousin getting along. 

 

What is soft?

 My mum flopping down onto the sofa after a long day of work,my favourite fluffy socks,the  girls’ pyjama aisle filled with fluffy socks, hoodies,winter boots and many more.

 

What is delicious?

 

My mums warm pancakes with sprinkles,strawberries and melted chocolate fountain,me and my friend’s homemade tropical milkshake  that we made from lemons,watermelons,cherries,mango,and a little bit of honey.

What is big? A white elephant squishing a double decker bus, my brain doing complicated algebra and a giant meteorite heading towards Earth.

What is small? A miniscule mice scurrying across the floorboards of a cottage, air particles floating around the room and conkers falling down from a grand tree.

What is thin? A lamppost outside in the soggy rain, a pencil slowly shrinking and a homework paper drifting slowly into the bin.

What is thick? A ten layer triple chocolate cake suddenly disappearing, the giant pile of books in my room and the landfill beside our city.

What is soft? My snuggly blanket, a friend’s heart and the cosy bed in my room.

What is hard? Rock and roll being played at a concert, the bark on an oak tree and the muscles of a thief after a bank robbery.

What is happiness? My face in the early hours of Christmas, the sun glowing on a bright summer’s day and a leprechaun finding a rainbow floating in the sky.

What is sadness? Gloom and misery floating into souls on a thundering holiday,a broken promise with a true friend and the death of a fellow family member.

What are loud? A classroom full of kids, a racing car zooming down the race track.

 

What are soft? A cat’s belly, my bed waiting for me to get in it, a blanket.

What are hard? A fossil from 99 million years ago, a door made from the mighty oak tree.

 

What are hot? Rays of the sun beaming on Earth, my mouth when it eats a red hot pepper.

What are cold? A robber’s heart, Sale is cold!, a freezer keeping it cool.

 

What are big? A brain that knows everything, a zebra grazing all day, the BFGs ears.

What are small? A pencil led when it was snapped off a pencil, atems fixing a cut.

 

What are empty? A belly when it’s not eaten for hours, a school in lockdown, Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory when it just opens. 

What are full? Santas sack on christmas eve, the seats for film night at Moorlands.

What are loud? A thunderstorm of whirlwinds, a bolder knocking down an elongated skyscraper and the swishing, see through; ocean.

What are quiet? Smooth jazz, soothing sounds of spa music and a mouse squeaking.

 

What are soft? A pillow, my neighbours cat called tanuki and a newborn baby’s skin.

What are hard? A metal water bottle, concrete and pen lid. 

 

What are hot? A sparkler, a lava rock and a warm pancake with spilled syrup.

What are cold? A raspberry ripple smoothie , a small snow sculpture and a frozen peach yoghurt straight from the freezer.

 

What are smooth? The mixture for a special seven layer cake and sleek hair and.

What are rough? A spiky tree trunk, scratches on a book and the bricks on a house.

What is memorable? My sweet baby sister breathing air for the first time and the loss of my gorgeous great grandmother Gemma.

What is soft? My favourite warm and cosy blanket cuddled up to me on an icy winter’s day and silky, delicate rose petals.

 

What is hopeful? The bright sun pouring into the no longer pitch black cave.

What is quiet? Golden leaves swiftly drifting to the ground and the very awkward silence in Miss Yarwood’s maths class when she asks a tricky question.

 

What is hilarious? When Georgia (my little sister) steales my mum’s phone to go on Cbeebies playtime island and drains all the battery.

What is delicious? The fantastic taste of sugary Krispy Kreme donuts bouncing joyfully off the tip of my tongue and lovely thick pancakes with nutella chocolate and you can’t forget the strawberries on top.

 

What is depressing? A neglected broken heart, a child’s single tear and when I find out it’s my turn to clean my dirty hamster Cutie’s filthy cage.
