The magic forest by Vienna SWW

Quietly, Roxy crept downstairs, jumped over the rug just in case the floor board under it creaked and squeezed out the door. She stopped for a second, just to hear the silence of the town then carried on going to the old forest where she first saw a dragon. It was a dark, stormy morning. Thunder raged and lighting struck but Roxy still carried on moving.

Roxy came to the edge of the forest, took a deep breath and headed in. The trees cast ebony shadows but Roxy did not seem spooked. The trees whispered to each other as Roxy went past them. The air was musty. Trees got denser the further she went in. Seeing the fresh footprints in the earth gave her goosebumps. There were noises deep inside the forest. A purple eye flickered opened, staring at Roxy. Roxy screamed. Then ran.

With her wishes of dragons left behind, Roxy sprinted towards the road. Roxy jumped over broken branches, leapt over roots and climbed rocks. When she got the the road she stopped, all she could hear was her heart thudding. This magical forest had ate all its secrets.

  1. Wow! The suspense in the last sentence, ‘This magical forest had eaten all it’s secrets’ is incredible. I want to know more! Great use of short tenses to create the tension. Very creative and magical similes and metaphors. Brilliant work Vienna!
