The Masked Emporium. Chapter 4: Gone forever.
End of Chapter 3-Caged up
After charging out of the memory in Kaila’s arms, Tia was taken into the nook she had seen Kaila enter earlier. Inside there were many things that looked old-fashioned: a wooden desk, where pages were spread; a pile of leather-bound books; a medium sized bookshelf; and the scariest: a barred, shimmering black cage. Kaila paused in front of the cage and unlocked the door. She carelessly tossed Tia inside and hurried out of the nook, through some crimson curtains.
“HEY! COME BACK, PLEASE!” the locked-up girl cried. A single tear fell down her cheek and she slumped to the floor. Tia was doomed…
Chapter 4- Gone forever
Tia banged at the bars. This wasn’t fair.
What had I done to her? Oh yeah, I forgot. I completely disobeyed Kaila and wrote in the book. Now I’m doomed because of my careless deed. She sighed and thought and thought to herself. She would be thinking for a while if she wanted to escape…
After at least an hour, (Tia couldn’t know the time for there was not a clock in sight) Tia had given up on ideas. She could try and break the bars, however, that was impossible due to her lack of strength. She could call for help but that wouldn’t work well because Kaila would come in and tell her to shut up or no one would hear as it was very unlikely anybody would be in the Emporium now that darkness had fallen. Bags of tiredness slept under Tia’s eyes and hunger groaned in her stomach. She was sleepy and felt an urge of hunger grow inside of her. Tia moaned and slumped down on the bottom of the cage, closing her eyes for her deep need of rest.
The small girl opened her eyes to reveal something shifting behind the red curtains of the nook. Fear clogged in her throat at the thought of it being Kaila. Suddenly, someone peeked their head around a curtain and smirked. It was a face she knew and recognised as a friend rather than an enemy. Charlie. Her best friend. Had he come to save her?
“Charlie?” Tia pondered, confused. “Why are you here?”
“Errr….duh! The window’s open! I heard you!” Charlie changed his gaze to the open glimmering-glass window. He snorted, “I recognise your cries right away! I’m your best friend!”
Tia nodded slowly in agreement and shuffled closer to the bars of the cage, closer to her best friend
“What should I do?” she asked Charlie but he just sniggered.
“Errr, hadn’t you thought of the easiest solution! Slither through the bars, you’re the skinniest person in school!” He just rolled his eyes as if it was obvious.
“Oh-”
The two burst into giggles as Tia slithered through the bars, free at last. Muffled footsteps were heard and they stopped laughing. Was it Kaila? Could it be? The two friends burst into panic and leapt out of the window without any grace. They thumped to the ground and scuttled down the cobbled pathway, behind the shop, until they reached the front of The Masked Emporium. Tia and Charlie sighed as they strolled away, glancing behind them to reveal an empty space where the Emporium used to stand. Confusion whirled in their heads but there was no time. They both headed home away from the empty place, laughing about their adventure. The Masked Emporium was gone forever. It couldn’t mess with anyone anymore.
