Finally, they were ready to leave their home. That afternoon, a message arrived at the speed haven saying that all the Cougars were a few miles away.No one would be safe from the Cougar’s powerful jaws. They had no choice but to leave their home and flee to the only place that the cougars couldn’t enter.
So the 3 little horses, Arax, Shadow, and Mustang left their home. Their journey to safety would take at least a week but first, they would have to pass the Red Pine forest and past the Snowfall mountains to reach the Caves of safety. Even the Cougars couldn’t enter the mighty caves, carved in the mountainside by horses so long ago that they had passed into stories that the elderly only knew. Once the horses reached their destination they would be safe. Other horses chose to travel elsewhere but Shadow’s mother had given them an ancient map that showed the old paths, mostly hidden from unwanted eyes and glances. Too old to travel, she had stayed behind, hiding in the forest. Trailing behind Arax, Shadow stayed with Mustang. Wearily, they tried to follow in the footsteps of their older brother Arax without falling behind and losing their brother’s guidance to the caves of safety. They soon passed the Red Pine forest and to the Snowfall mountains. After at least 10 minutes they would be out of the forest and the sky would soon be dark and Mustang would look like he was soon going to pass out on the ground because he looked like he was going to faint.
They finally passed through the Red Pine forest and checked mustang to see how he was doing because he needed sleep. After a few minutes, they saw an old abandoned barn near the Snowfall mountains. Arax agreed to stay at the barn because it was near the next location and when the sun rose they could get started and then finally be at the last location the Caves of safety and be safe of the Cougars might jaws that can rip the flesh of a horse.
| When they went inside the old barn there was some old hay laying around, Arax Shadow, and Mustang ate the hay. Arax told a story about how the mountains were safe for all of the horses to be safe from the cougars. After the story ended Mustang and Shadow were fast asleep but Arax thought about how they were going to cross the snowfall mountains and into the caves of safety in time before the Cougars track them down and kill them. |
