Grant

The Grant is an elusive, extraordinary insect which is currently causing Entomologists world-wide to scratch their heads. Recently, a dangerous sandstorm emerged in South America. This welcomed a mysterious new form of insect- like no other- had been discovered on our planet. So far, Entomologists believe that ting eggs had been planted in the sand but were then disturbed by the wind which then caused the sand storm. Are you afraid of this unknown insect? Are they travelling to where you live?

Grab and go!

The Grant is a crafty, cunning insect as it uses its body parts to catch food. It has discreet, thin antennae located on its head. These help with their senses but they also do something that Entomologists have never seen before. On top of the antennae is a sticky layer. When they go to hunt for spiders they lean forward and the antennae and sneakily grab the spider. This helps them to not get stuck in the soft, fluffy webs. This is a very creative idea and is very resourceful.

Diverse diets!

Usually, male and female Grants have different diets. Males live in more tropical climates were spiders are more popular. But, females prefer to live in hotter climates were pollen and flower seeds are more popular. Their bodies are very complex because when both genders eat their preferred food, they grow a new colourful scale on their stomach. This makes them easy to spot!

Advanced Anatomy!

Everything about the Grant is complex but its body is a mix of two animals. The stomach area is the smallest part. This part is specified as an ant but its legs are something else. They’re as long as your fingers but are as thin as thread. Scientists say that they belong to grasshoppers. Their springy, powerful legs help them escape from any hazardous situations.

Where do they originate from?

The Grants were first spotted in humid, sticky climates but we have recently been told that they have been around for decades. Have you ever seen one? Apparently they’ve been hiding in secret underground tunnels. But, you can’t believe anything anymore!

The 4 sections!

In Grant’s mouths they have four sections. For the male, each spider it eats goes into the right section. It’s the same for the females but its flower seeds instead of spiders. It does this because each section of food helps with a different section of their body
