Chapter 2. The attack!

Chapter 2

We both sit patiently for a few minutes before I ask, “what is here? Why are you so worried?”. Outside, the wind is howling like a wolf. Inside, the fire is crackling while keeping us warm. I had a feeling that I knew what she would say. I was right. She had seen it.

40 minutes later, we walked through the town to the orphanage while retracing the girl’s footsteps. I worry to myself about how I should have just stayed in my room back at the museum with all my cleaning supplies. All I can say is that Violet (the girl’s name) is very persuasive, otherwise I wouldn’t have been here.

We had already passed the Pure Fish, Fish Bar, The Coffee and Cookies Cafe’ and the Fishing n’ Fun fishing shop. The roads are like a deserted island, all we can hear is the rumbling of the oncoming storm in the distance.

Violet pulls on my sleeve and points to the steps of the abandoned orphanage. We both stare in horror, a green slimy trail of pawprints leading up to the double doors. She wasn’t lying, she had seen it. Without much hesitation we follow the substance to find the lock on the gate shattered and chewed while the door had been broken wide open. Cautiously we enter the building…

Soundlessly, we step further into the corridor, our hearts beating faster by the minute. I can feel that something is off, as if something is watching us. I look around quickly but carefully; nothing is there. CRASH! “What was that!” I blurt out uncontrollably. “Shh!” Violet shushes. “We need to be quiet!”.

Violet steps closer and closer to the end of the corridor. Suddenly, we see a shadow on the wall in front of us. “It’s behind us! What do we do?” I whisper.

“Hide!” Violet whispers back. We both turn the handle on the closest door to us and step inside.

Outside, the distant sumbles were now over our heads and the blue sky is layered with a grey dust. With one swift movement the shadow broke down the door. Luckily me and Violet had hidden behind an old bed out of sight. We both held our breath as the thing crept closer, yelping and crying in between each step. Violet leaps out from behind the bed and flashes a light in its eyes! Somehow the creature dashes out the broken window in fear and flees into the sea.
