Chapter 1 – Leaving the Warren.

Finally, they were ready to escape.

That morning, a warning was sounded from the border of Sandy Holm, which shook all rabbits nearby, to alarm that the gorm were already past the border and were heading for Deep Sun Warren. Nobody would survive. The Warrens pathways had been created many a bramblemas day ago and were unstable.

Its walls were too sandy to survive the attack, Its rooms would collapse due to the Rampage.

So it was the three rabbits, Pic , Piper and Baby Pru, left their warren. Their journey would take at least two weeks, they would have to pass through Sandy Holm, then River Rico until they meet Robin Tree warren. Surprisingly, the Gorm could never get hold of this victorious warren, created on the main-land by ancient Rabbits so long ago, that the story passed into the many tales the Bards now only knew. Once the rabbits reached their destination, they would finally be safe. Other Cottontails from Deep Sun Warren had decided to travel elsewhere, but the smaller rabbit’s mother had gifted them an out-dated map to help them navigate their way. It revealed secret paths through the desert that only the wiser rabbits knew of. Too old to travel, their mother stayed behind, hiding inside one of the many holes in Sandy Holm.

Gripping the aged map tightly, the band of young rabbits trekked falward, along the sunny desert until they reached a worn zip-wire over the deep river Rico. Soon after swinging across, they were on the inside of the Main-Land. The Cottontails waded through the tall grass to what they wished would be safety.

Colossal trees loomed overhead as they travelled across the ancient rabbit

Paths. Cautiously, Pic took the lead. Clutching his thick cloak nearer, he trudged

On as the forest winds swept leaves around the landscape. Wherever Pic looked, he imagined the grim faces of hungry wolves charging at them, shadows of evil Bandits, and perhaps the metallic armour of the fearful Gorm.

Trailing behind their brother, Piper clutched her little brother, baby Pru. Wearily, they aimed to follow in the foot-steps of Pic. Piper distracted Pru from the cold, but after a bit, she realised how cold Pru was, Piper could feel him shivering. As the night continued, Piper stopped Pic so they could build shelter on the out-skirts of East Anne River. With each other’s help, they built a leaning hut against a tree. Piper and Pru dragged long logs to a spruce tree, and then rested the logs against the tree. Pru carefully stuffed the gaps with clumps of dried moss. The tree rabbits made a small fire-pit outside of the hut, the shelter began to warm up.

That night, they ate slices of dried Cactus, Traditional oat-cakes and nibbled at packs of desert grasses that their mother had packed the night before. Pru was soon fast asleep, snuggled in-between his older siblings. Carefully, Pic rested a layer of decaying branches over the entrance to protect themselves from unwanted eyes.

Pics mind was packed with dreams of the iron clank of the Gorm, charging through the fog like a murderous wave of fear. Would they find safety in Robin Tree Warren?
